Giving mum a hug safely?

My mum lives alone and has barely seen us due to Covid. The changes brought in mean she won't now see most of the family for many more months as we're all in tier 3 and all live miles from her. We plan on making a surprise visit to her on Christmas day. In the garden so not going into the house.

She is desperate for physical contact, a hug. Would that be so very risky? Her physical health isn't great but I'm also worried about her mental health as she suffers from depression. So far she's been ok but I think the cracks are beginning to appear.

Can you hang a plastic sheet/shower curtain and stand either side and hug?
My friend did this for her dad in summer, sounds mad but they loved it and had a good laugh about the ridiculousness of it.

I have worn a mask and hugged my mum from behind 🤣 kept my face below her face height to minimise breath contact. It was lovely x

@kerosene20 I know it would be great to have a hug from my mum.
