Thousands and thousands cramming into stations to leave London.
That should spread the new variant around the rest of the country very nicely Hmm

I suggest you stay in your house and avoid going anywhere just in case a Londoner is lurking out there.

We are staying in London and so are our families in London. With the exception of one set of cousins whos father was supposed to pick up on Monday. My auntie got divorced couple of years ago and her young children are supposed to spend Christmas with their father who moved back home in Wales. Now, will that be allowed or will they modify their plans? I don’t know yet.

Otherwise, the rest of us were going to stay at home or work on Christmas Day. Dh got a bit excited about empty roads again. He loved that the first lockdown.

Maybe londoners should be forced to wear bells or something to warn people that they are in the presence of someone is unclean?

@sashagabadon

Presumably they are all people actually from other parts of the U.K. returning home? And probably mostly young adults? So not a”Londoners” No one I know is leaving London as we have no where to go Grin And Londoners rich enough to have second homes drive to them in their 4wheel drives with their kids and dogs etc , they don’t get on the train

This strain is apparently in the South-East, Wales and Scotland. Sky News just reported that it is in every part of the UK. There is not an absolute ban on travel to and from Tier 4 areas anyway - many people will still travel legitimately. It seems very naive to expect the Tier 4 restrictions to contain an even more infectious variant of covid-19 in Tier 4 areas.

Before the November lockdown we were hearing predictions of exponential growth, 4,000 deaths a day (quickly revised down to 1500 and then 1000) etc. It seems that over winter we have been in a position where the November style level of lockdown across the UK is required to keep cases steady and anything less than that is going to cause growth in the spread (which is why I have always been anti-lockdown - lockdowns need to be maintained long term to work which causes massive collateral damage). .

Young adults in their 30’s??
Bloody hell.

@ssd

It's the ones staying in London and doing the right thing I feel sorry for. They must be totally pissed off that they have effectively given up their own family xmas and keeping others safe whilst masses of folks aren't and will spread this around and getting rewarded with a family xmas for their trouble
Yes, the majority of Londoners will be doing the right thing. It's probably only a small minority in the grand scheme of things. Still, it doesn't take many people for things to get out of control.

@2020out

Seriously? Mums net changed the title but didn't feel that the vicious op was worth deleting?

There are 9 million people in London. Some of them live here Monday to Friday only and their family live elsewhere. Some of them made the decision to go back to their family. Most didn't.

Get a grip. It's not a vicious thread. It's merely staring the bleeding obvious. They didn't slap a tier 4 on London for the fun of it. This is serious business. And from the scenes at stations some (not all) people are not taking things seriously. If I Want to comment on it I will.

You're stating nothing.

9 million people in London. I can guarantee you that there weren't 9 million people on those trains and motorways yesterday.

I live alone in London and will be spending the next 2 weeks alone. Then I'll go back to work in a school, where I picked up covid two weeks ago. So I'm fucking miserable. I'm glad that some people in similar situations have been able to take reasonable risks. But I guess you'd be happier if they were all miserable and isolated like me.

Helocariad · 20/12/2020 12:36

I really feel for all of you in T4 who will be spending Christmas alone Flowers. Please people, be kind. It's just rubbish for so many of us.

We had one other household visiting us which has now of course been cancelled. We have food going to waste, presents sent to wrong addresses and because Id left our own kids until this week .. no presents for them. BUT I still don’t blame those who have gone back home to mum and dad. Young adults in grotty flat shares. I wish them well.

The stupid thing was Boris cancelling it all days after he explicitly said he wouldn’t. Madness.
