If I stay in an empty house belonging to extended family, can I travel crosscountry on 24th, spend 25th with family then travel home on 26th? Going from tier two to tier two.

i think its essential travel only...this isn't essentials it?

HundredMilesAnHour · 19/12/2020 21:25

Which part of "stay local" is confusing to you?

NaughtipussMaximus · 19/12/2020 21:25

I should probably add that this isn’t for me - it’s a family member who wants to know. I thought it wouldn’t be allowed.

When you say cross-country, do you mean using bridle tracks in a 4x4 and avoiding main roads?

Freshcoatofpaint · 19/12/2020 21:34

No

NaughtipussMaximus · 19/12/2020 21:35

Ahaha no they’re going to use the motorways! I’m concerned they’re going to get stopped by the police to be honest.

Why is it an essential journey?

Hearwego · 19/12/2020 21:38

You aren’t supposed to leave your tier system unless it’s essential travel or work.
So no, you aren’t supposed to drive across the country.

NaughtipussMaximus · 19/12/2020 21:40

Yeah, that’s what I thought. It’s a 3 hour drive!

Says this in the news:

The general Government advice for tiers one, two, and three on travelling between tiers is to ‘avoid travelling outside of your local area, meaning your village or town, or part of a city, where possible. People should continue to travel for reasons such as work, education, getting medical attention or fulfilling caring responsibilities.’

However, there are no travel restrictions in place for these tiers.

NaughtipussMaximus · 19/12/2020 21:48

Ah that’s interesting - so it’s guidance not actual restrictions. So probably won’t get pulled over by the police?!

It’s our family members visiting other family members - we’re not seeing anyone this Xmas so it’s largely academic to me, I wasn’t sure if it was actually illegal or just stupid.

Your supposed to stay "local" if I dont leave my tier system I could probably drive from a tier 2 sussex beside the border to tier 4 all the way up north.
