Schools are closed. Construction is largely closed. People have time off work booked.

Just get EVERYONE who doesn't need to to stay at home for two weeks and massively reduce transmission.

More people than any other fie of the year are off anyway.

Get it under control (quarantine everyone coming into the country as well) and then see where things are in mid January.

I post this from a hotel bar getting ready for a Christmas do with 350 people because that's what we did in April. I get the UK is a big place, but if EVERYONE did the right thing for two weeks (Road blocks and the works) it would surely lead to a massive decrease in transmission

Agree. I work in manufacturing and we are about to close down until January, this is standard in the industry. I'd be happy to stay at home now for 2 weeks, I can't work from home so it's the perfect time.

HTruffle · 19/12/2020 18:38

Might as well. I agree with you.

Should have shut schools a week earlier and then moved London to tier 4 with the rest of the country in tier 3. Plus non retail, non time critical businesses. And gyms/leisure centres. 12 kids in ds swim class the other week, I didn't bother taking him last week.

This was done in March. Numbers rise when you open up again.

Yes but they start from a lower number. That's how numbers work.

Can I ask how come about the do for 350 people?

Different (and smaller) country.

Do it properly and you can virtually eradicate it. It wasn't done properly in March

Thank you for your answer op.

Passmeabottlemrjones · 19/12/2020 19:09

We can't eradicate it, especially not in a couple of weeks over Xmas, but I agree we could get numbers down so that Jan/Feb is OK and then once the warmer weather comes and more people are vaccinated things will get better. There is definitely light at the end of the tunnel!

Bimbleboo · 19/12/2020 19:09

@secretllama we also didn’t have a vaccine in March. If we used the time to ramp up the vaccinations, we would come out in a far more favourable position than we did after March. (And March bought a lot of time. Rates plummeted. Now imagine we got the rates down that much while also vaccinating huge numbers of those most vulnerable.

I know it’s all wishful thinking and people just wouldn’t comply now like they did in March. But I do think there’s logic to it OP
