Would you fight this?

With the announcement today my boss has messaged to say no matter what tier you are in its business as usual next week.
I work back end of a college which is in a tier 4 area and I currently am in a tier 2. College itself will be quiet next week and we are one of the only departments in. All teaching staff are off so it is just a case of tying up any loose ends which we are able to do from home.
I want to message back and say I don't understand why we need to go in when what I am doing next week is 100% doable at home. It also directly contradicts going across tiers.
Boss is on holiday next week so it does not affect them and I am the only one who lives outside of the tier 4.
Is this unreasonable?

Are you in a union? Boris said Tier 4 WFH if you can, which it sounds like you can.

CatVsChristmasTree · 19/12/2020 18:43

I'd fight it, boss is in the wrong and putting your colleagues at unnecessary risk.

SockDrawer · 19/12/2020 18:44

I’d fight it if it’s 100% doable from home.

Bridecilla · 19/12/2020 18:47

Yup. Would definitely fight it.

Will your boss even know if you just wfh if they're off?

purrpaws · 19/12/2020 18:50

Thanks all. I'm so angry that our lives just seem expendable at the moment but that's another rant in itself!
Will go back and see what is said.

Good luck! Do you have anyone to speak up with you?

purrpaws · 20/12/2020 12:10

No luck this end. There are a large group of us who feel the same. Funnily enough all our bosses are on leave next week until at least the 4th jan so won't be affected!
