"Seeing Granny for a cup of tea"

How patronising. Perhaps Granny has a brain and can make her own decisions. Perhaps Granny is a vibrant and interesting human being in her own right with a good support network and a dose of common sense.

I agree, I think older people have been terribly infantalised and used as weapons by politicians through all this. I know personally if I was coming to the end of my life the thought of spending it locked away not seeing family or friends would fill me with horror.

I'm an older person, though thankfully not coming to the end of my life. My mother is 96 and still has a brain fully functioning.

Some grannies would far rather have a gin...

I absolutely agree. Apart from where is grandpa in all this (thus making it a sexist comment), it's the assumption that

  1. only older people are affected by CV19
  2. people of any age are people and not to be grouped randomly by age or status
  3. "older" equals "unintelligent, disabled and incapable"

Yes to number 3.Presumably Granddad is either in his shed whittling or checking out his chinos,Bretton top and silver fox hair in a mirror

It’s patronising talk aimed at the older generation, that makes some people under 40 think they are immune from COVID, mix and then spread it! Hence lockdowns.

Yes, more older people might die, but they are not necessarily the spreaders and COVID deaths are across every age range.
Just off to top up my Gin!
