Mild cough for a day or so last week
I'm so worried he will be desperately poorly

StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2020 14:51

Sorry to hear that, not to downplay the seriousness but children are on the whole fine. I know it's easy to be calm when it's not your child but he almost certainly will be fine. Take care x

WhatHaveIFound · 19/12/2020 14:53

Does he have any underlying health conditions? If not then i don't think there's much need to worry. Children seem to be a lot less affected by Covid.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 19/12/2020 14:53

We think DD has it back in march, slight cough & a temp for about 12 hours, she was absolutely fine. chances are your DC will be too, and also there's no guarantee they will pass.it on to you either.

BiscuitDrama · 19/12/2020 14:53

If they had the cough last week then this is probably as bad as it’s going to get. Smile

It’s any older people they pass it onto who are more likely to be ill with it. Like you, I’m afraid.

BiscuitDrama · 19/12/2020 14:54

That’s awful, sorry for the words of doom! But make sure you have groceries in just in case Smile

I meant to add that too. Neither DH or I caught it from our DD when she had it and I was hugging her on the day she took her test!
StealthPolarBear · 19/12/2020 14:57

Op is presumably isolating anyway so has food in. And hopefully all you need for Christmas op?

wetasstenalady · 19/12/2020 15:11

Yes we have all we need luckily
Me and DH can go to the shops luckily as we tested positive last week

My DS 6 tested positive Mon and he’s been absolutely fine, he had a temperature Mon for 12 hours that’s it. He was born extremely preterm at 24 weeks and was on Oxygen until he was 1yo because of lung damage. I was worried it may have affected him worse but thankfully he’s gotten off lightly.

fadingfast · 19/12/2020 15:19

OP your whole household should be isolating, so you shouldn’t be going out to the shops at all!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 19/12/2020 15:21

Save your concern for yourself - a dozen kids in DS's school have it this week, and they are all bouncing of the walls in excellent spirits. Some have a runny nose, but that may or may not be the Covid.

The parents are losing the will to live...

We have already tested positive and come out of our isolation period ! I'm not an idiot

Pretty sure you have to isolate again as there is no evidence you can’t get it again

wetasstenalady · 19/12/2020 17:24

Not within the ten day window....do you think I've not checked?

OP posts:
Internshipquestion · 19/12/2020 19:57

Im so sorry, I hope he makes a swift recovery! If it makes you feel any better. My friend is a pediatric nurse, and we were speaking about this yesterday. She was saying the children who come to hospital with covid tend to be under 2 or over 10, and those in the middle are rarely seen on the ward.

lostfrequencies · 19/12/2020 20:05

Uhhhh I don't think you or your husband should be going out, from what you've said

evenmoreforthemoor · 19/12/2020 20:26

Honestly pretty much every post has one poster within the first 5 replies which berates the OP for breaking lockdown rules.

So

Fucking

Boring!!!

Jenny4235 · 19/12/2020 20:35

You LO will be fine OP. My DD (4) tested positive Tuesday and she’s doing great, runny nose, slight tummy ache and a mild night cough. She’s pretty much back to 100% today. My other DD(7) started symptoms yesterday, she’s similar but weirdly got conjunctivitis in one eye today, apparently this is a rare symptom in kids Hmm... it’s just mad. I didn’t think I’d worry so much about them getting it but now it’s in them I want it the hell out. Spikey little #%

user1488819536 · 19/12/2020 20:35

My thee year old had it, you would never if known, he was perfectly fine.

Jenny4235 · 19/12/2020 20:39

FWIW OP is right, you only isolate once for 10 days from when you’ve tested positive. The clock doesn’t reset every time a new household member tests positive.

Jenny4235 · 19/12/2020 20:42

@user1488819536 out of interest did you or anyone else in your household test positive? We are 5 days post test and clear atm. I’m finding the same with my 4yo. Tested her on a hunch but tbh I think most people would’ve just overlooked as a minor cold and sent them to school

MeowMeowLikeACow · 19/12/2020 20:44

From the government guidance on isolation:

"If you do not have symptoms of COVID-19 yourself, you do not need a test. Only arrange a test if you develop COVID-19 symptoms or if you are asked to do so as part of a wider testing scheme. If for any reason you have a negative test result during your 10 day isolation period, you must continue to self-isolate. Even if you don’t have symptoms, you could still pass the infection on to others. Stay at home for the full 10 days to avoid putting others at risk.

If you develop symptoms while you are isolating, arrange to have a COVID-19 PCR test. If your test result is positive, follow the advice for people with COVID-19 to stay at home and start a further full 10 day isolation period. This begins when your symptoms started, regardless of where you are in your original 10 day isolation period. This means that your total isolation period will be longer than 10 days.

If other household members develop symptoms during this period, you do not need to isolate for longer than 10 days."

OP is not doing anything wrong if she it outside of her 10 day window. The guidance is clear that if someone in the household develops symptoms during their period of isolation, the clock does not reset for those already infected.

So stop piling on her!

AppleJane · 19/12/2020 20:45

These rules have no logic. Obviously no-one wants to keep isolating over and over again but I can't see how the ten day rule prevents active virus from the newly isolating household member being spread via other family members to supermarket trollies etc.

Vanannabananna · 19/12/2020 20:47

My 2 year old DD tested positive beginning of November. None of the rest of us caught it. She had a cough and quite bad fatigue. She was very emotional and clingy. She had post viral fatigue and only this last week is back to herself. However looks like long term she’ll be fine. Hope your LO is ok and you are both feeling better too
