I almost can’t stand it. What the hell will they be announcing now?

@Remmy123

They just want to shit people up enough so that they won't mix - people hang off the government's every word dont they.
Yes because they have lost the ability to think for themselves. It's shocking how many sheep follow every word like we live in a dictatorship.
Chaotic45 · 19/12/2020 15:15

@Elfieishere

I have no plans to not see my family over Xmas. It’s already planned and all bought for.
Goodness is that the only reason to go ahead?!

What about people who cancelled birthdays, weddings, holidays?

What about those with an empty space at the table of someone who will never come back because they died from Covid?

Bought and paid for- what an entitled attitude!

likeamillpond · 19/12/2020 15:15

@BringPizza

I think people need to get a grip.

Nowhere on this thread has a Christian complained about not being able to go to church for a Christmas service. People whining about trees and turkeys, while others (not here on this thread) will be waiting for updates from covid ITU staff on seriously ill relatives. I miss my friends and family desperately too, but for the sake of the vulnerable I accept I have to behave in a responsible manner. It's one day people, one fucking day.

IMAGINE THE CLUSTERFUCK IF CORBYN HAD GOT IN

Oh, this such an informative and intelligent contribution to the debate.

I think London and SE will go into a lockdown before Christmas and the rest of England from 28th to 18th Jan.

Bathroom12345 · 19/12/2020 15:17

If it’s not true why is the virus spreading? People who stop blaming the government. I know loads of people who make the rules up to suit themselves.

Why should people stay on their own during Xmas? It’s because if they don’t they might pick up the virus, spread it to others and potentially get ill and die.

Of course it’s not right and people’s mental health in some cases are trashed but it’s the BASTARD virus and people aren’t following the rules. You might think you don’t anyone but you will I can guarantee that!

IntermittentParps · 19/12/2020 15:17

Apparently it is her account, (although taking it with a pinch of salt)
Yeah, I'm a bit 'hmm] that she's apparently locked herself out of her account on the very day when she has this amazing leak…

Truelymadlydeeplysomeonesmum · 19/12/2020 15:17

@donquixotedelamancha

Discreetly putting this here....IMAGINE THE CLUSTERFUCK IF CORBYN HAD GOT IN

The man was a muppet but I'm struggling to see how it would have been worse?

I don't think he'd have lasted long as PM but, even if he had, he could at least: organise people, stick to a plan and speak in clear sentences.

His shadow cabinet was weak but not to the extent where Michael Gove is your most competent Minister and Matt Hancock is the voice of morality.

The lockdowns and restrictions would have been right up his street. A big old communist would love nothing better than this opportunity to change the way this country works.
donquixotedelamancha · 19/12/2020 15:18

This is what the bbc are currently saying: A fourth tier of coronavirus restrictions is expected to be introduced in London and south-east England, sources have told the BBC.

Does anyone remember when governments used to announce important things in parliament?

Chaotic45 · 19/12/2020 15:18
@Chaotic45 Going by my social media today which has gone mad this afternoon many friends/family are also going ahead with plans no matter what today’s announcement is 🤷🏼‍♀️

After being in lockdown most of the year people are getting fed up as all the lockdown did was bring the numbers down a few weeks, covid is still out there and will be for a very long time. As time has gone on people are realising that they can’t hide from it they have to live their lives alongside it.
I take your point. But as I sit here listening to my Covid positive husband coughing away and isolated in our bedroom I wish wholeheartedly that people didn't thing it was something that we should just accept and live with.

RavingAnnie · 19/12/2020 15:19

@poshme

I don't think he should cancel bubbles.

Some of us have begun carefully self isolating & reducing contacts so we can see family in 4 days.

Some of us have been following the rules to the letter and are desperate to see family.

If he cancels bubbles people will just ignore the rules.

This. We've followed all the rules to the letter and we've been self isolating so that we can mix with one other household (my son and his partner) who we have barely seen since March.
Roominmyhouse · 19/12/2020 15:19

@SantasBritchesSpelleas

Might be a last minute dash to the post office on Monday to post presents at this rate!

Send them tracked - I sent a tracked parcel 200 miles earlier this week - arrived within 24 hours. Costly but worth it.

Oh ok cool thanks for the tip 👍🏻

My mum has said we can meet tomorrow if necessary as I imagine whatever this new tier 4 brings will be from Monday?

yeOldeTrout · 19/12/2020 15:19

I reckon that the Christmas relaxation made a lot of people MORE caution this week, and their plans next week are also extra cautious, precisely to reduce risks of transmission when mixing in the relaxed period, & because they didn't feel as worried about WHEN would they next see their loved ones.

The way some people are talking you'd think the Xmas relaxation was happening now or was past & the damage already measured.

We are in a bad place now because of transmission that happened 1-3 weeks ago, not in the future.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 19/12/2020 15:19

How would you police & enforce all of this?

That's the question which is never answered isn't it? Even leaving aside the areas where "rulebreaking" won't be policed because of cultural sensitivities - and we have large parts of my city where non-essential shops and places of worship stayed open throughout - there just aren't enough staff to enforce this

Unless you count the community clipboard mafia, and they don't have any power anyway

CatholicKidston · 19/12/2020 15:19
**@VaTeLaverLesMains* I'm in the middle of a chemo course and getting nervous about the state of the NHS post Xmas.* It must be awful for you. Last January elderly relative of mine had a fall, broke a hip, they have advanced dementia. They spent five hours in an ambulance, then even longer on a trolley in a corridor. They had nothing to eat or drink. All credit to the hospital they fixed her hip and against all odds she is mobile but if they were under that much pressure last January what the hell is January 2021 going to be like.

I hope you and yours can keep safe.
My nearest hospital had 17 ambulances queued outside with patients waiting in them at one point last week. No beds for them in the hospital. Doctors were coming out to treat them in the car park. If that doesn't scare people I don't know what will.

BethlehemIsInTier1 · 19/12/2020 15:20

@Latenightreader

I could be completely screwed. My mother has been in lockdown with us since March, but had to go back to her home (200 miles away) at the start of December for medical appointments plus a couple of other things which were going to be hard to rearrange. I drove her home (I lost my job due to Covid) and returned to my home, the plan being to go there for Christmas. As a result I have limited fresh food in (plenty of tins), no tree, and a toddler...
Well set off now then before the muppet stops you from travelling.
Rhine · 19/12/2020 15:20

@Elfieishere

I have no plans to not see my family over Xmas. It’s already planned and all bought for.
Then you are also very fucking selfish and entitled. Hope you don’t expect an ICU bed if you get it and get seriously unwell.
donquixotedelamancha · 19/12/2020 15:22

The lockdowns and restrictions would have been right up his street. A big old communist would love nothing better than this opportunity to change the way this country works.

You are saying if Corbyn got in there might have been unprecedented restrictions on our civil liberties and massively increased borrowing, with the private sector decreasing in proportion to the public sector?

Thank fuck we dodged that bullet.

RosePetalss · 19/12/2020 15:22

@Chaotic45 I really hope your husband gets better quickly and totally understand your worryFlowers
We lost 2 very dear elderly family members at the beginning of lockdown, we did not get to say goodbye or go to their funeral.

Take care🥰

midscram · 19/12/2020 15:22

@Puzzledandpissedoff never had an answer since the Covid threads began. I don't necessarily disagree with some of the points but we police by consent here. It's like all the bloody points about "be more like China". We are not like China & won't become like them in a few months, it's a huge cultural shift!

TeaLibrary · 19/12/2020 15:23

Its utterly shite. But its the right thing to do. Cases are going through the roof and more deaths will result if this isn't done. I know that it being the right thing to do is absolutely no consolation to anyone who won't be able to spend Christmas with their families. I'm sorry to all of you who are upset and angry and feeling isolated and alone. I''m upset too.

Thewiseoneincognito · 19/12/2020 15:23

@Rhine agreed!

Disregard of the rules should be a deal breaker for NHS treatment.

Can’t follow the rules? fend for yourself.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 19/12/2020 15:23

The transmission that happened while the country was in lockdown Hmm
itsgettingweird · 19/12/2020 15:24

I'm nervous.

I'm technically SE but actually south and my county is tier 2 with 3 areas just put into tier 3.

I could understand whole county being put into 3 to stop spread out of those areas but if whole area is lumped into 4 I'll be devastated.

We'd arranged a simple SD few hours with my parents Xmas day. Mum is very unwell and maybe won't be here another Christmas.

I've followed all rules and obviously will support science and follow rules. But I live alone with disabled ds. I really need these few hours for my MH and have been deliberating isolating so it's safer. As safe as it can be.

Sobeyondthehills · 19/12/2020 15:24

If you look at her other account she hasn't tweeted anything since 2019

Bought and paid for- what an entitled attitude!

Iv also had 3 holidays cancelled this year Hmm and what?
And I have a family member that most likely won’t be here NEXT Christmas! What about that? Or does it only matter if someone dies of covid!

I’m entitled to see my family so I will be. I couldn’t care less if someone on the internet gets the hump about it.
