Review of 3 Main Symptoms needed

Following on from another thread in whih lots of people, whi live in areas where its easy to get tests are saying they have tested positive with symptoms such as headaches, runny noses and gastro problems and NOT always temperature, loss of smell and continuous cough.
Is it about time they updated and changed the NHS page where people go to try and book a test?
People want tests but are being refused unless they meet one of the 3 criteria.
They then go on to unwittingly infect lots of people.
It could be one of the reasons we're in such a mess now.

The virus is changing.
Maybe the symptoms are as well.

Totally agree

cushionpad · 19/12/2020 07:57

Yes absolutely, I had just sneezing and runny nose was totally shocked when + I have had worse colds, do feel very tired now but thats all.

Kissthepastrychef · 19/12/2020 08:07

Totally agree, I had headache and total exhaustion, I was creative with my symptom to get a test because I couldn't take the chance I was going into work infecting dozens of people in a closed, air conditioned environment.
I was positive with none of the 3 symptoms they require for you to be tested and I totally agree an urgent rethink is required.

Sexnotgender · 19/12/2020 08:08

I agree.

Iwonder777 · 19/12/2020 08:11

Def agree

Whatdidisay · 19/12/2020 08:11

Definitely agree and they also need to update the children's symptoms as research has shown they don't present with the classic 3 symptoms meaning many many cases are missed and they are spreading the virus unchecked as still in school!

noelgiraffe · 19/12/2020 08:14

This is the list of symptoms used in the US:

People with these symptoms may have COVID-19:
Fever or chills.
Cough.
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing.
Fatigue.
Muscle or body aches.
Headache.
New loss of taste or smell.
Sore throat.

The U.K. have been using too few symptoms from the start.

I think more people are disbelieving the accuracy of some tests. A friend was travelling abroad and had to have a negative Covid test...she tested positive. One month later ...tested positive again which is supposed to be virtually impossible.

I read Elon Musk had 4 tests in one day...2 positive and 2 negative.

Friend was admitted to hospital with classic Covid. Had several negative tests and doctors couldn't work out what was wrong and then last one was positive....he now has long Covid with clots on lungs

So I don't think you can take any results as true

shivbo2014 · 19/12/2020 08:18

Yes definitely the two people I know who have had it in the last few weeks didn't have the main symptoms both had to lie about their symptoms to get tested.

thatone · 19/12/2020 08:21

Yes

No, it’s quite common to still test positive for a while after having covid, up to three months.

Shopaholic100 · 19/12/2020 08:35

From personal experience definitely agree.

DesperatelySeekingSunshine · 19/12/2020 08:52

Absolutely, a work colleague had a terrible head cold for a few days, bunged up sinuses, runny nose the works. But no typical symptoms. Only when her dad got a positive, did she then take a test and it came back positive too.

Chevron123 · 19/12/2020 08:54

Agree totally. Can I ask how people have been "creative" to get a test. I have been headachy with a sore throat all week and would really like a test before Christmas.

noelgiraffe · 19/12/2020 09:44

Just tick the box when you book online to say you have a fever.

MoirasRoses · 19/12/2020 09:49

Really easy @Chevron123 - literally just tick the box to say you have one of the main symptoms. And on you go to booking a test. I’ve had several. Mostly for coughs but my last test was just for a cold. It was positive.
No-one checks or anything, you just show your barcode. And to be honest, if anyone had asked me I’d just say I couldn’t smell anything. I’m quite happy to lie as I think our list of symptoms is rubbish.

HairyFloppins · 19/12/2020 09:51

Yes agree, my kids never really got a fever it appeared just as a cold. I also never lost my sense of smell until about a week in.

starrynight19 · 19/12/2020 09:54

Yes completely agree. My first symptoms were head cold / ear ache / headache / fatigue. The cough didn’t come until a week later.
Ironically when you do test positive and input you are then asked if you are suffering from a whole host of symptoms including these mentioned on here.

middleager · 19/12/2020 09:59

Agree. Friend just tested positive with a cold/runny nose.

To pp, I think people are advised against retesting again within 90 days of a positive test as they may still show as positive.

Chocs44 · 19/12/2020 10:04

Completely agree both of my daughters had head colds and only went for a test when they lost their sense of smell and taste. They tested positive but for several days had been carrying on as normal whilst contagious with me saying don't be ridiculous it's just a cold!!!

laudemio · 19/12/2020 10:05

Totally agree
