So scared about sending children back to school in January

Just that really. I just about survived the stress of this term, knowing that they could bring it home to their vulnerable family. They are only primary but the latest ONS survey shows primary cases shooting up. With everyone mingling at Xmas and cases pretty much back up to what it was pre lockdown 2 I’m petrified.

What will the numbers be like in Jan if we carry on like this? Will there be another lockdown? Will there come a point when they will close schools or make them safer as they just seem to be making them plough on regardless.

If you’re vulnerable are you not getting the vaccine soon?

YuleAreBeingUnREASTIEable · 19/12/2020 06:56

Yup, this is a horrible situ. I’m trapped in a situ where I’ve been keeping dd home whilst local rates are high and there are known cases in her school. One of the deciding factors for me was seeing the school not follow its own risk assessment properly and parents openly totally ignore rules. School were super supportive and understanding then suddenly changed their view.

School are now threatening to deregister her (it’s a private school) so I’m trapped in the situ of being forced to send her in in January and risk our vulnerable family members or do home Ed and lose her place. We have continued to pay full fees whilst she’s been home and been grateful for the minimal amount of work sent home and live in one of the highest case areas in the country so it’s not looking good for January. I don’t know what I’m going to do but I’m so stressed about it and dh and I are at odds about it as he just follows whatever the govt say.

FourTeaFallOut · 19/12/2020 07:14

No, I don't think I'll be sending them back to absorb all the 'personal risk assessments' of their classmates families. I'm shielding and not so far away from a vaccine by the time they return to school.

RememberSelfCompassion · 19/12/2020 07:32

@Frenchdressing Im clinically vulnerable and 6th on the list. An online calculator puts that at Match/April (which w0uld be great) but others have pointed out that only worked if they're doing a lot more per a week than they are doing....

So yes I want to make it til the vaccine. If my kids were little I would keep them off til then, but ones secondary snd I can't. I'm do scared of catchingnit in january with the vaccine in sight.

forwardsbackwardsrebound · 19/12/2020 07:56

Some people seem to be getting some sick pleasure of constant locking down. FFS.

Helenj1977 · 19/12/2020 08:44

I took mine out a week early for Christmas and right now they’re not going back in January.

They can fine me all they like but I’m not risking it. The head sent home a very angry yesterday about how they won’t be about to test them.

yawnsvillex · 19/12/2020 09:04

@Strawberrypancakes

Ffs. Everyone just needs to get over this. Aren’t you sick to the teeth of being told what to do, where to go, businesses closing, people losing jobs??

100%!

I've decided I will now pay no attention to any alleged rules.

I went round 2 people's houses last night, had a glorious time and will continue to do so.

Zero fucks given.

movingonup20 · 19/12/2020 09:37

The situation is very varied across the country, they need to stop movement outside of regions - there's indication their will be a 4th tier with schools and shops shut and people cannot leave it unless very good reasons (stricter than before). Here there's precisely 6 active cases in a town of 25 thousand as of yesterday, all secondary school kids according to local reports.

OpheliasCrayon · 19/12/2020 09:42

They won't shut....they shouldn't shut...I don't know why they'd bother with a lockdown...because they have clearly been proved not to work...tiers are clearly not working...but you just can't keep taking kids out of school. The damage it's doing is ridiculous. From a CEV SEN teacher who has worked throughout

RaRaLaLaLaaa · 19/12/2020 09:47

I don't understand why people are not just keeping their own children off if they are so 'petrified'. De-register them and do what you think is necessary for your own family and your own circumstances. Why are you waiting for the government to make a decision for you? You have to do what's best for you.

The schools are not going to close down and they are not going to be 'made safer'. I'm changing wet knickers and wiping noses and holding hands and everything in my classroom. We haven't even got soap in the staff toilet unless we buy it ourselves.

@yawnsvillex

How very brave of you to post this anonymously on an online forum.

You what?

What's brave about posting that?

SadSecretSanta · 19/12/2020 10:45

My Union published some stats this week. One in 15 primary aged pupils is positive, and one in 40 secondary pupils.

Covidnomore · 19/12/2020 10:45

@Agoodbriskwalk

Schools can and should close. I'm sick of this bullshit rhetoric. Vulnerable children will still be looked after as they have been all along but that's no justification for mass group mixing during a global pandemic.
Vulnerable children will still be looked after as they have been all along

Thats the Bullshit part.

Let's call a spade a spade. This didn't happen.

SleepymummyZzz · 19/12/2020 10:48

@NuttyinNotts I’m so glad the school approved this. I’m primary CEV and already worried about returning on the 4th Sad

SleepymummyZzz · 19/12/2020 10:49

Primary Reception teacher CEV rather and DS is also at another primary 😔

DayBath · 19/12/2020 10:51

@yawnsvillex

That's exactly my point, it's called sarcasm. I very much doubt you would say it with such pride to a real life audience of your boss, work colleagues, elderly relatives, neighbours etc. You can spout off on here all you like about your rule breaking and how wonderful you think your decision is but you're quite happy to dodge the fines and the real life judgements I bet.

Yet we are all supposed to be impressed with your self centred little post...pathetic and selfish.

Errrr nope. I openly tell people this. Do I sense a bit of envy?

DayBath · 19/12/2020 10:56

@yawnsvillex. Why would I envy a 'covidiot'? How strange that you think petty selfishness is an enviable quality, I pity you.

TimeForLunch · 19/12/2020 11:00

So keep your children off. No one's going to fine you under the current circumstances. Just say you're all isolating. But please don't expect the schools to close for everyone else. Schools are essential and online learning is no substitute.

Covidnomore · 19/12/2020 11:00

Op i am apprehensive as I doubt many parents in our school will.follow the guidelines.

I am not overly scared though as we are Tier 2 and our rates are a lot lower than many areas.

It is what it is, my kids are happier being in school, and they are primary aged so risk reduced.

We are not socialising though, so we won't take it back into school in Jan and hopefully if they do get it, then we won't spread it out the house.

I do think closing all schools would be the absolutely worst thing to do, but I do wish this useless government would do more to protect staff and pupils.

Covidnomore · 19/12/2020 11:01

Don't know if my post reads as if I work in a school - I don't.

MarshaBradyo · 19/12/2020 11:13

Can you speak to the school?

It’s unlikely schools will close

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/12/2020 11:13

You could keep them home for the first few weeks if possible.

I can’t with work but hoping my OH can.
