No announcement on the Queen getting vaccinated yet

So before the Pfizer jab got approved, there was a lot of talk in the media how the Queen and Prince Philip will get vaccinated to encourage the public. Not getting it done in public, but an announcement was to be expected, and both are of advanced age so eligible for the Pfizer vaccine. However, we heard nary a peep. Just Prince Charles saying he would wait his turn. The cynic in me thinks to make things patriotic and jingoistic, the Queen was asked to wait for the Oxford vaccine to be approved and will get this one. Your thoughts on the delay?

Why would any of us expect to be informed of the royal families medical care? It's private and nothing to do with us .

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 18/12/2020 23:11

@forwardsbackwardsrebound

The old boot has been silent through this whole pandemic!
She did a speech in April and you only need to wait a week for the next.

I am not sure I really want lots of royal broadcasts. I have definitely felt leadership has been lacking at times but that’s more because Boris wasn’t doing his job very assiduously.

RosesAndHellebores · 18/12/2020 23:24

Let's be realistic. The Queen is 93 and the Duke of Edinburgh 99. It could be announced that one, other or both had had the vaccine and either could quite reasonably pop their clogs as a result of entirely natural causes shortly thereafter. That would be about as bad as things could get for public confidence in the vaccine. Therefore it won't happen.

DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 19/12/2020 00:42

@DumplingsAndStew

Isn't it still just HCP and care homes being vaccinated?
The guidance changed. (although may be regional specific). In my area, they held off NHS staff (with very few exceptions), and are focusing people aged 80+ and care home staff (practical problems with doing the residents at the moment due to vaccine storage etc)
DontStopThinkingAboutTomorrow · 19/12/2020 00:44

There are several possibilities, anyway:

  1. She's had it
  2. She doesn't want it for whatever private reason
  3. She's decided to wait a while as her isolation situation isn't exactly dire like some elderly people living completely alone - she's got a castle full of staff so not exactly alone.

Who knows?

HeddaGarbled · 19/12/2020 00:45

You need to wait. The vaccinations of over 80s have only just started.

Sennetti · 19/12/2020 00:45

She makes a public speech on the 25th.... few days away

Wait and see!

Kokeshi123 · 19/12/2020 01:10

I don't think it is any of our business as to whether or not they get the vaccine.

Really? She's, like, our head of state. Her entire life is the nation's business, pretty much.

ethelredonagoodday · 19/12/2020 01:15

It's not really their style is it, they are private unless absolutely forced to disclose...

ineedaholidaynow · 19/12/2020 01:33

Some GP surgeries have been given the vaccine. My DM had her vaccination done this week

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 19/12/2020 01:57

@movingonup20

At the moment most the people vaccinated were nhs staff or those already in hospital/scheduled outpatient plus certain large gp practices. No home visits yet so they are not going to have been offered it, plus they said all along they aren't being treated differently.
Yes. My 90 year old aunt (living at home) hasn't been able to have hers yet and her GP practice don't know when it will be her turn.
laudemio · 19/12/2020 02:13

I think she will mention it in the speech on Christmas day, as part of 'amazing scientists working together across the commonwealth and thankyou nhs' sections

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 19/12/2020 02:19

@SantasBritchesSpelleas Exactly my thoughts. I can’t imagine she wouldn’t be first in line if she wanted to be. And, as a Republican, I wouldn’t have a problem with it, given her age and that of her husband, with their almost constant contact with other people. They must be pretty high on the list for these reasons. Not saying they deserve it more, but even objectively they will be high on the list

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 19/12/2020 02:55

The Queen is fine. I checked her out on some coins and she looks as healthy as she always did.

katy1213 · 19/12/2020 03:03

Will drug companies have 'by appointment' on the vials?

NiceGerbil · 19/12/2020 03:03

Don't understand the thread. At all. I mean. I don't base my decisions on what the royal family do. It didn't even occur to me, which is why I clicked. It's very weird.

As for this.

Yesterday 22:27Elephant4

'I've heard from various people/sources that the Royal Family are never vaccinated for anything at all.'

Ok. Really? Polio? Diphtheria? Smallpox? You think erm that. Seriously?

The royal family go all over the world a lot. You think they aren't vaccinated against typhoid, tetanus?

That's just. Really silly.

NiceGerbil · 19/12/2020 03:11

Quick Google tells me Jenner did the biz in 1896.

The claim that the UK royal family ( including minor royals? It's a big family) have never had any vaccines....

Have you seen pictures of iron lungs? Do you know what smallpox did?

I would like some more info than 'someone told me' that the royal family (who are kept as healthy as possible) have never and were never vaccinated against polio. Smallpox. Typhoid. Diphtheria.

I mean come off it.

If that's true and they were visiting areas with typhoid polio etc and then coming home and mingling with all sorts of people. Visiting around the UK, meeting overseas heads of state... Well that's a huge claim.

TunMahla · 19/12/2020 05:29

Come on, Queen is the perfect role model for vaccinations. Government sources said they want to recruit a lot of celebrities for the cause and Palace insiders in many stories in the media claimed that the Queen is keen to do her bit so why not? I think some posters here are right thst she may do a thank you and mention her vaccination in her Christmas speech.

Yeah she did one in arpil way after lockdown started.

Second lockdoen at a time when we all knew more then, would have been good to try and unite everyone when everyone feeling feel crap about another lockdown.

Might only be week away til her Xmas msg but apparently that might not go ahead unless brexit deal is done as was reported

Sorry but she doesn't have much to do as her role but one of them is around uniting the country etc. Should have done more to be honest esp since she won't ever be one to suffer consequences of the virus like losing her job, business or home etc.
