Is it just a cold?

Streaming nose, headache, tired, sore throat.

But on Tuesday I saw someone who developed symptoms Wednesday, test thursday, no results yet. They are coughing, tired and short of breath.

Is it just a cold? Should I test even though there are no classic symptoms?
Due to work tonight and tomorrow night. And massive event Sunday night - I say event, there are only 10 people involved at work but it is a pivotal shift that we have been working toward for six months or more . It cannot be repeated and it will be 'over' after the sunday shift and I will not see the people again. And I really dont want to miss it, but obviously not infecting people is more important!

So cold, and I am being paranoid because of contact or yes, get a test?

When I say saw, they were in workplace, socially distanced, and I stepped outside with them for 30 mins.

Well until you have one of the symptoms you'd have to lie to get a test. Not that I'm judging that at all

Up to you I suppose. I wouldn't thank anyone for giving me a cold with streaming nose and sore throat etc at the moment

Get a test, it is widely known that more and more people are experiencing cold symptoms!

Cornettoninja · 18/12/2020 12:43

If you organised it today you’re more likely to have the results before Sunday.

Personally I would test (and comfortably lie about symptoms) to be able to work if negative completely at ease I wasn’t spreading it about.

You are describing my DD's exact symptoms. She was positive.

Lipz · 18/12/2020 12:48

You've more than one symptom. The headache, and tiredness is very common, the runny nose and sore throat, while not as common has been mentioned by many who tested positive. I've heard many different symptoms, like fluid leaking from the ear, no taste, metal taste, body aches. If you're working and have an event it would be wise to get a test.

The covid zoe app asked me to get a test for those exact symptoms yesterday. Got the test really quickly. Process was really efficient should get results this evening or tomorrow morning. I found join that app

The only way you can tell the difference between Covid, a cold, flu or lots of other viruses is with a test.

There's no "telltale" symptom that makes it definitely covid or a cold.

whataballbag · 18/12/2020 12:51

Shouldn't you be isolating anyway?

This.

I was convinced I had covid last week. Streaming nose, persistent cough, difficulty breathing, exhausted.

Test was negative.

Just for balance I feel it’s worth pointing out that ZOE is looking to exclude symptoms as much as include them in early covid symptoms.

I reported cold symptoms and it didn’t ask me to test so it’s not a given.

I really feel that a sore throat and headache needs to be added to the three test trigger symptoms. It may only be anecdotal but I feel like I’m seeing that combination mentioned more and more.

Tfoot75 · 18/12/2020 12:56

Yes of course you should get a test. You don't need to lie, or to self isolate, just select 'my council has asked me to get a test'. As my council does advise a test for these symptoms. Testing is national so not sure why you would be 'lying' and I can easily get a test for the same symptoms? Just get one, result probably back tomorrow.

I was convinced i had an end of term cold. Tired, achey joints, slight sore throat . Then i lost my sense of smell and taste, tested on Tuesday and positive result weds. We're all now isolating until 25th. Christmas cancelled. Not even done my shopping yet so not entirely sure how I'll square that with my youngestSad
