What do I do?

I'm in NI and all my family are in London. My dad was shielding so I haven't travelled to see them since last Christmas - we would usually have seen each other 3/4 times since then. He and my SM live alone with no one else and I have always travelled to them for Christmas (I am recently divorced from an abusive marriage and have no children).

We didn't want to risk a flight due to the risks and the ferry is so expensive that I couldn't afford to go more than once. The ferry is booked. I am in my second week of working from home and have isolated to cut down on risk. But now London is in tier three.

Should I cancel? They will be gutted and I will be alone. But what do I do?

For me it would depend on how you’re getting to them. Is the ferry safe? Flights are one of the safer ways to travel due to the new air filter systems they had to have, but not sure about ferrys. I wouldn’t want to risk the tube, it will be rammed at Christmas. If you can avoid all risky travel I’d go as you have been isolating.

@Mousehole10 I would be driving. I have a seat booked in a quiet lounge on the ferry and will drive on and drive off the ferry. No public transport at all. I'm actually afraid of boats and have never driven in Wales or England so it's a bit daunting but I can manage it.

We travelled from Wales to N Ireland in the summer to see my parents - Liverpool to Belfast. Its a long crossing but we booked a cabin so we could stay away from others on the boat. It felt very safe - all staff wearing masks and one way systems in place. Cabin was rather pleasant!! Tea /coffee, ensuite, telly, and I think they start from about £45. That was with Stena Line. They knock the door and make tannoy announcements when it's time to return to your car (we left it until the very last minute) so there's no waiting around in a big crowd of people. Might be worth looking into?
If you have sat nav the driving will be fine. Hope you get to see your parents safely and have a lovely Christmas.
