Are your teens complying?

I had a very upset 19 year old last night who is feeling lonely and had a Snapchat full of people breaking the rules - a number of house parties and a b/f and g/f spending nights at others houses.

My two teenagers are complying but finding it really tough when that is in their faces

DD is still seeing her BF. We are allowing that. Otherwise she's complying.

Firefliess · 17/12/2020 20:11

DD has found a job with a food delivery cycle courier firm. She doesn't earn a lot but enjoys the outdoor (legal) hanging around chatting to people while waiting for orders. Might be worth your DD checking out if she's a competent cyclist?

DS is - friends kids are ‘out all the time’ which is probably the reason the have all had Covid (and who knows how long you are immune for once you’re had it, or if you can carry it?).

It seems like the teens we know have become either hermits or party animals!

NewYearNewPlumbing · 17/12/2020 20:15

No - but they are only seeing a very few people in a socially distanced way.

No parties etc.

SilverGlitterBaubles · 17/12/2020 20:20

Yes they are following the rules although I'm under no illusions that there is social distancing at school/ college. Many of their peers are having friends over, doing sleepovers and parties and their parents seem to endorse this. One parent got a bit snooty when I said DD2 could not come for a sleepover due to the restrictions and said 'oh we don't bother with all that nonsense' Hmm. DD1 has had two isolations due to close contacts at college which were due to classmates who had been partying so she gets really annoyed.

@TeacherVoucher

How many people are going to pipe up with "no, mine are total rat bags"?

The most hilarious one I've heard was a friend who told us her son picked up Covid from a girl who popped into their university halls flat. Definitely not the all night raves and parties he wangs on about to my son then?? Hmm

Well, quite.

Elderly mother in law (87) & her gentleman friend (89) on the other hand are going here, there & everywhere as are most of their friends, they cannot understand what all the fuss is about & are annoyed that all their coach trips are cancelled. As for christmas.....

MiddlesexGirl · 17/12/2020 21:56

Four of them are. One is not Hmm

DariaMorgendorffer · 17/12/2020 21:59

Yes.

Desmondo2016 · 17/12/2020 21:59

No. My 16 year old is struggling with the concept of why his friends are risky after 4pm but perfectly safe before that so is carrying on seeing friends occasionally. The vast majority if what they do is legal, ie a game of football or walking round with takeout drinks/food but he has also been to a couple friends houses and he has a friend here staying tonight.

Babyroobs · 17/12/2020 22:05

My 19 year old sees a group of friends. He says they meet in someone's garden and stay socially distanced and chat. I'm not sure though. My 18 year old only sees his girlfriend and they go for a walk, but she does pick him up in her car which I suppose is against the rules but then again they are at college together ? My 15 year old dd has stuck to the rules rigidly.

Mine is a younger teen but yes is complying. Isolating at the moment but when not spends weekends out with 2 friends from his tutor group. We are rural so they walk around, walk to the next village sometimes to buy too many sweets and then come back and sit on the village hall steps to use the WiFi and play Mario cart on the switch.
