Please help me to stay calm.

I tested positive for covid on Sunday the test came back Monday positive.

I'm on my own other than young children and im so scared especially at night. So far apart from bach ache ive not got symtoms although I constantly feel scared that I won't wake up for my children or won't be able to breath or have a stroke etc.

Does anyone have any idea how soon after catching covid the positive test comes and then when do symtoms start. Ive read

Hey!
I fully sympathise on how your feeling, I was tested positive on the 12th after self isolating with my youngest who had been in contact with someone on his year group bubble. I have really bad health anxiety so when I found out I was also very scared of what the next few weeks were going to be like. You may have slightly different symptoms each day, for example sore throat, headaches, fatigue but just keep telling yourself you’ve got a cold nothing more and you will be fine, try and rest as much as you can whenever you can.

I’m now day 8 and yes I still feel extremely tired but apart from my taste and smell still not returned I feel that my other symptoms have slowly disappeared.

You will be fine 💐💐

Magic1231 · 18/12/2020 12:41

I know it's easier said than done as I'm the same, but try not to get too anxious as that will make you feel ill. If you do get really anxious try to remember that some of your symptoms may be due to that... you're obviously fairly young so chances are you will be totally fine, not everyone suffers badly from it xxxx

BABYLOVE02 · 18/12/2020 13:01

Thank you all, I have been reading these messages when I cant sleep or think straight. Thank you all x

Wishing you a speedy recovery and hoping it's mild for you. I know it's hard but try not to stress over it as it will make you worse. Hydrate hydrate hydrate! Lots of vit C and rest. Sending love xxxx

Bonkerz · 18/12/2020 13:13

I'm 42. Had covid in November. Test on 11th. Positive result on 13th. Symptoms started 16th. Just felt snotty and headache but got through that week with lots of water and rest while I home schooled son who also had positive test. 17th I slept all day and 18th had to go to hospital because temp wouldn't go down. Was out on 20th and feeling tired for a week but still went back to work on 30th.

Spied · 18/12/2020 13:24

As a fellow panic sufferer you'll know that 9.9 times out of 10 the worries about what will/can happen are worse than the event/thing we are worrying about.
The chances are you will be fine.
Also beware of confusing the anxiety physical symptoms and putting them down to Covid. i.e that pounding heart is much more likely to be anxiety when you're laid stressing. Anxiety also gives me almighty headaches.
Obviously keep an eye on things but keep an eye on your anxiety.

Magic1231 · 18/12/2020 14:47

Obviously feel free to keep posting here OP, we'll keep responding if its helpful Smile xxx

BABYLOVE02 · 18/12/2020 20:33

Thank you all much appreciated.

Bonkerz can I ask please did you feel unwell when test our was it routine test for example at work.

If you don't mind me asking did your temp start straight away. Im trying to be calm but im anything but. Ive not had a panic attack since positive test which I'm please about because I do suffer with them. Thanks again x

Can you find a relaxation to listen to, one that searches for your negative thoughts and allows them to drift off, maybe also one that gets you to focus on relaxing each part of your body and one that talks about breathing, longer out breaths than in.

I had an accident a few years ago and couldn't sleep reliving the accident and anticipating the worst for the operation I was waiting for. Listening to guided relaxations really helped.

MummieOfTwo · 19/12/2020 10:44

BABYLOVE02 how are you feeling? X

Medstudent12 · 19/12/2020 11:25

You are very unlikely to be seriously ill. Ring a friend and make sure you’re looking after your well-being.

Drink water and keep moving around. You’ll get through it. Xx

BABYLOVE02 · 19/12/2020 11:57

Thank you all. Mummieoftwo and Medstudent12 im feeling fine thank you and thankfully the children seem well.

I'm hoping and praying that by now i would be feeling ill if I was going too. But I cant find consistent information and so don't know if the worst is yet to come. My positive test was sun 13th, but I had no symptoms so may have only just been infected at that point ?

Thank again everyone this is really helpful xx

Glad you're feeling okay BABYLOVE02, I think if you were going to become really ill it would have happened by now. How is your anxiety?xxx

sleepwhenidie · 19/12/2020 18:34

It’s been a week now, seems very unlikely that you will get ill at this stage. My Dad is 78, in a care home, v frail with a horrendous chest condition (similar to COPD). We were terrified he would get it and not survive...we got the dreaded call three weeks ago that he tested positive-and he had not a single symptom for 2 weeks, then negative!

Cam2020 · 19/12/2020 18:38

Most people will be fine. Look at the cases VS deaths nos. I know several people who have had it from all different age groups and at worst, they've said it's like a really horrible viral infection.

tweetingbird · 20/12/2020 08:43

Hi OP. This is my first post and I wanted to join as I feel like I’m in a similar situation to you (positive and extremely anxious). One thing getting me through is the 10 day countdown. I’m on day 6 so just a little behind you. Feel ok (had mild cold) but sick with nerves. We will get through this!!

Magic1231 · 21/12/2020 22:43

Are you okay BABYLOVE02?

Sorry you've got it too Tweetingbird, how are you feeling? I hope your nerves are settling a bit. I'm the same with anxiety so can totally imagine how you must feel xxx

BABYLOVE02 · 22/12/2020 04:29

Thank you for your lovely messages.

I'm okay thank you my anxiety has been the worst part.

Tweetingbird I hope you are okay.x

It feels strange that we can technically see my mum over Xmas, as isolation ends soon but im worried we could still be contagious.

Thanks all xx

Hi, I'm joining in too if okay! My kids are positive, it's been a week now and I've woken up with symptoms in the early hours. I've got realllllly really bad health anxiety and been having back pain attacks since 1am. Ho are you OP? Panicky hand hold here Smile xxx

Baullocks · 22/12/2020 05:29

sorry I mean a week since they first tested positive.

Gastropod · 22/12/2020 07:04

Vitamin C - lots of it! And a pulse oximeter to ease your mind - I found it really helped to relieve the stress, plus it was useful to monitor heart rate. I noticed the illness would send my heart pounding which in turn would make me feel more stressed about it all.

Magic1231 · 22/12/2020 15:56

Yes! Get those vitamin c and zinc dissolveable tablets.. I take one everyday.
It suck its (in some cases understandably) ramped up to be this terrifying illness, so the anxiety is bound to take over and for a lit the symptoms of that are far worse than the virus itself.
I'm really glad you're okay BABYLOVE02, you must be nearly on the other side of it now 🙌 plus you'll have antibodies for a few months xxx

Jenibluebell · 22/12/2020 16:15

Hi, sending hugs, how are you now?? my son has tested positive for it yesterday and I'm very scared too I have high health anxiety and extremely scared of getting it myself. My son is fine, extremely mild symptoms. Its awful all this and not nice isolating until the 30th over Christmas. Stay safe everyone xxx
