Husband has tested positive today. Does our 10 days end on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day?

My husband has had two positive lateral flow tests today. His employer provided them as a colleague tested positive.

He's booked for a drive through test tomorrow to be sure.

I know he has to isolate for 7 days, and the DC and I for 10 days. Can anyone help me work out of my isolation ends on 24th or on Christmas Day? As in am I free on Christmas Day?

I'm not planning on doing anything much on Christmas Day but it would be nice to at least take a walk.

Also my husband has isolated in spare room but I'm unclear if he needs to do this for seven days to minimise chance of infecting us?

I've taken a lateral flow test provided by his employer. It was negative but I realise I could be incubating the virus.....

I would say Christmas day?

CarryOnFestiveNamechanging · 15/12/2020 21:45

Christmas Day evening

palacegirl77 · 15/12/2020 21:49

If today is day one, day 10 would be the 24th.

CovidPostingName · 15/12/2020 21:50

It's ten days for all of you, symptom isolation has not been reduced!

palacegirl77 · 15/12/2020 21:51

15th 1
16th 2
17th 3
18th 4
19th 5
20th 6
21st 7
22nd 8
23rd 9
24th 10. So you would be free to be out of isolation on Christmas day as long as symptom free,

CovidPostingName · 15/12/2020 21:51

And counting on a calendar it's perfectly clear that the ten days including today finishes at midnight on Christmas eve night, so you're free from 00.01 on Christmas Day.

titchy · 15/12/2020 21:53

Technicallly it's 10 days from a PCR test not a lateral flow...! But yeah Christmas Eve.

Gwenhines · 15/12/2020 21:54

Isn't today day zero? Tomorrow day 1?
That's how schools have been counting it.

Frazzled2207 · 15/12/2020 21:55

agree you're free on xmas day. But your husband needs to isolate for 10 days not 7 (as do you all). Hopefully he won't get symptoms which will make it harder for it to spread (I think). If he's already had symptoms however the 10 days starts from when that happened.

CherieBabySpliffUp · 15/12/2020 21:55

Is it not 14 days for him if he's had no symptoms?

Mammaaof · 15/12/2020 21:55

Why is he only self isolating for 7 days.. it's 10 days for all of you..

Curlysusie · 15/12/2020 21:56

If pcr negative you won't have to isolate at all x

shamus2020 · 15/12/2020 21:56

It's 10 days for him and 14 for any others in the household.

Northernsoullover · 15/12/2020 21:56

10 days from PCR test if no symptoms. 10 days from symptom onset if they are present.

Mammaaof · 15/12/2020 22:00

@shamus2020 please don't give wrong information. It's 10 days for everyone now. Rules have changed

Mammaaof · 15/12/2020 22:01

@Curlysusie what!? Of course she has to isolate her husband has tested positive! She lives in the same house.

shamus2020 · 15/12/2020 22:03

When did they change?

Purpler5 · 15/12/2020 22:05

The day you get a positive test is day zero. But if you don’t have symptoms and then develop them then that becomes your new day zero.

Turtleshelly · 15/12/2020 22:06

The app would count tomorrow as day 1. It did for us. You’ve done day one after 24 hours. Sorry. (Genuinely sorry because this is rubbish for you. Wishing you all the best).

Purpler5 · 15/12/2020 22:07

*the person gets a positive test, not you

Furrybootsyecomfy · 15/12/2020 22:07

When I tested positive I was told that the day of the test was Day 1. That’s Scotland though.

Purpler5 · 15/12/2020 22:07

@Gwenhines

Isn't today day zero? Tomorrow day 1? That's how schools have been counting it.
Agreed this is how schools have been counting it.
Furrybootsyecomfy · 15/12/2020 22:08

*sorry, told by the occupational health nurse who phoned.

christmasathomeagain · 15/12/2020 22:09

@shamus2020 Monday this week the rules in the UK changed to 10 days for those living with a positive household member.

WotsitWiggle · 15/12/2020 22:16

It's Christmas Day, all of you have to isolate for 10 days from today. If he develops symptoms, the 10 days starts from then.

If he was positive and you were negative, and you have the space to stay apart, i would do.
