Having to self isolate as next door are positive

Wwydiywm · 15/12/2020 18:38

Got a notification from the covid app today to self isolate, apparently I was in contact with someone on sunday, when I didn't leave the house!
As the app works on bluetooth, I'm assuming it's because next door neighbours (we share a wall) have tested positive, but I don't want to ask them as its prying!
Has anyone else had this happen, is it possible?

Don’t be ridiculous - it’s not prying as it directly affects you! Why not pop a note through the letterbox situation and asking if it could be their proximity causing the notification, add your phone number so they can respond without leaving the house and with no contact.

HesterShaw1 · 15/12/2020 18:58

Well if you know you didn't leave the house on Sunday it must be next door. You don't have to do what the app says.

Lougle · 15/12/2020 19:01

Our next door (semi-detached) neighbours have had CV and we didn't get any notifications. But that's not to say it's not possible.

Sausagis · 15/12/2020 19:03

I'm sure I read someone phoned them and had confirmation it was their upstairs neighbor so they didn't have to quarantine?

Ginogineli · 15/12/2020 19:03

you dont have to follow app - my work place doesnt allow app at all as reason to isolate

AcornAutumn · 15/12/2020 19:05

Yes it happens through walls

No you don’t have to isolate.

Get rid of the bloody app!

Comefromaway · 15/12/2020 19:08

This happened in reverse to a colleague of Dh.

He tested positive, his next door neighbour got told to isolate even though they hadn’t left the house that day.

vodkaredbullgirl · 15/12/2020 19:09

I would never be at worked if that happened and who could look after the residents in the care home.

madroid · 15/12/2020 19:10

Well it might be nice to put a note through with your number and offer to get anything they need.

Love thy neighbour. And it's Christmas Xmas Wink

How can people criticise the govt for the tracing fiasco yet refuse to download the app? How do they think the tracing system can work if people don't use the app and/or don't give correct details when asked etc.
Hayeahnobut · 15/12/2020 19:20

Kazzy, people would comply if a) the app worked properly, and b) they had a government they could trust. At present neither of those things are happening.

AcornAutumn · 15/12/2020 19:22

Kazzy - I’ve been into this in previous posts

My late father specialised in infectious disease management and there is no app required for this. I won’t repeat what I’ve said in previous threads.

And another reason why were in the state were in.
SummerHouse · 15/12/2020 19:24

Popping a note through the neighbors letterbox saying "hi, I'm supposed to be isolating..." Not really a note I would welcome if I hadn't tested positive.

RedRiverShore · 15/12/2020 19:25

Maybe turn the tracking off when you are in your house

WhereverIGoddamnLike · 15/12/2020 19:26

@AcornAutumn
My dad designs oil rigs, but I couldn't tell you what you would need or not need for that.

Your dad having that job doesn't qualify you to boss people about.

Wwydiywm · 15/12/2020 19:30

@Sausagis I'm pretty sure I can't check officially if its them anyway as its anonymous, test and trace can't actually access who it that I've been in contact with

I wouldn't put a note through the door to ask, I have her number but I really do think its prying!
I know a few people who have got huffy about being outed as positive

This is why I don't have the app. I can pick up my neighbours Bluetooth and they're the social type, plus a teen.

I wfh and make flying visits to the shops so my risk is mostly my dc's being at school. And I'll know when that happens.

Apologies, I’m not trying to boss people about

I’m saying

  1. please consider getting rid of the app as it has a lot of problems

  2. please consider infection control measures as opposed to behavioural control measures

  3. please consider what the government have and haven’t done in terms of actual physical infection control.

Swishswish26 · 15/12/2020 19:42

I’d be interested to know how many people still used the app, checked in to places etc. Everyone I know has deleted the app because it is not fit for purpose.

Backbee · 15/12/2020 19:47

I don't really get the app. I had a notification to isolate so I did, and then a colleague said they had tested positive which tallied with when I saw them, but didn't hear anything from track and trace even though she passed details on. I phoned the helpline as work won't accept the app as a reason to isolate, and they said the risk wasn't deemed enough to have to isolate and to ignore the app Confused.

Georgyporky · 15/12/2020 19:48

T&T app is not reliable.
We were told to isolate after we'd been for a lunchtime bar meal & the infected party was there in the evening.
I've uninstalled the app; I'll now rely on common sense rather than what that clown BoJo says.

Backbee · 15/12/2020 19:48

For context, they were literally the only person I had seen that day as I went from front door to car, and we were the only ones in the office.

medusawashere · 15/12/2020 19:49

My DHTB and I got an "alert" at the same time when we were indoors. Scared the crap out of me! We went and got tested after a couple of days, just to be sure and tested negative. The confusion with the app is that it tells you so little about where you were exposed and when so that you can potentially avoid that place for a bit. Anonymity respected in all other areas, of course. Horrible. Am starting to lose the will to live with it all a little bit. Also, anyone else find it annoying that the notifications sent to you by the app aren't saved anywhere?
