Zero hours contract and isolation

outofthemoon · 15/12/2020 18:37

My son has to isolate because of being in contact with someone who tested positive. (He is still waiting for his own test result to come back.)
It means he can't go into work and will lose pay.

Is there any compensation for this? He says not.

Worth checking with local council to see eligibility for their local support scheme.

He could be eligible for the payment. He should be able to get the info from the .gov website.

BTW, if he's isolating because of a close contact, a negative test result does not get him out of having to isolate.

There is a £500 payment available for low income.

Thanks, he knows that. He works at a covid testing centre and would not dream of risking anyone. However, his agency are not been communicate or helpful. He has rent to pay and although we have heard of the £500 payment, neither he nor others he works with have been able to find out how to apply. He wasn't told via Track and Trace. He just knows through being contacted by a person he was with who since tested +ve.

being communicative.

Sorry,

Anyone been in this position please?

I think you can apply for this through test and trace, when they call to tell you to isolate. When did the other person get their positive test result? He's probably due a call soon if the positive person gave them his details.

I think they got a +ve last Fri/Sat from a rapid test. Warned people they had been with. One of them ds, who contacted his agency. They confirmed what he knew he couldn't do already, which was come in to work. Nothing through test and trace. Agency notoriously difficult to contact.
He lost his job at the start of lockdown, but has kept himself going doing anything he can on zero hours ever since. Not claimed anything, not that he could get it, but this is very tough now and seems so unfair.

it is indeed unfair. A quick google brought me this which suggests you have to go via your local authority. I then googled my own local authority and self isolation payment and quickly found how to do it. There are loads of conditions though, I've heard that only around 10 % of people that actually want it get it.

Needs to contact his local authority, if he isn’t getting ssp and is low income he will get £500, can also defer council tax. Tell him to apply ASAP. Every local authority is different but I think most are cash limited funds and take around a week to process
