How long from exposure to symptoms for you?

For those of you who know when you were exposed to Covid and then developed it, how long did it take from exposure to you having your first symptoms?

As you might guess, I've been exposed (within 1m of an unmasked person for over an hour in my line of work, who then tested positive 24 hours later) and am now on red alert. It's scary.

Thank you. I guess I'm wondering when I can relax a bit. Day 4 today.

Apparently first 5 days are most likely.

Hi there

I know exactly when I caught it. I ate lunch with my colleague on Tuesday, he tested on Wednesday and got his positive result Thursday morning. I started having some symptoms over the weekend. sore head, sore throat. so 4/5 days - I think the official line is 5-7 days after exposure, but could be up to 14.

Taffyapple8 · 15/12/2020 18:14

I was exposed Friday and felt a bit off Monday. Alot more symptoms Tuesday and positive Weds x

HairyFloppins · 15/12/2020 18:21

DH started with a temp Mon night into Tuesday morning. Me and dd started coughing Tuesday night. I was surprised how quick it took us all down.

Returnofthemaccys · 15/12/2020 19:49

I know the official line is '5 days average but could be up to 14' but I was looking for some quality anecdata. Grin

So far they're all making me feel better as things still ok here (as far as I know) 4.5 days after exposure.

I was exposed Thursday / Friday in my class at school. Our first positive came in Saturday.
I self isolated from Friday leaving school and had first symptom the following Friday 7 days , test following day 8 days and positive result Monday 10 days.

DougRossIsTheBoss · 15/12/2020 19:58

Exposed on Monday afternoon at work
First symptom (temp and feeling flu like) on Friday evening
So 4 days
I will say it was very sudden. I felt fine Fri afternoon and then terrible in the evening.

Waiting to see if this holds up for DH and the DC

PrivateD00r · 15/12/2020 20:03

I was exposed on the Tuesday I think. I was unusually fatigued on the Thursday but put it down to a long run of busy shifts. Actual covid symptoms started on the Friday afternoon, positive test result the following day. My DH didn't catch it off me and he didn't isolate from me as he was really concerned as I was very unwell.

Blatant place marking

Exactly same for me , I worked all week teaching online and calling parents. Literally Friday night I felt a bit off and went to bed early.

DD was sent home on Thursday lunchtime, symptoms showed up on Saturday, positive result Sunday. Do 2 days for it to incubate.

middleager · 15/12/2020 20:12

My son was first exposed on the Wednesday morning and showed symptoms Friday evening.

SunbathingDragon · 15/12/2020 20:12

Based on colleagues, I would say three days after the day of exposure. Almost without fail actually.

Smidge001 · 15/12/2020 20:14

Work colleague's wife and son had it. He tested negative at the time. Wfh the whole time and started showing symptoms 2 weeks later! Tested positive. I was really shocked as I think gov guidelines are to isolate for 10 days after testing positive, but he only got it 14 days after.
Terrible cough. Still coughing a lot now, 3 weeks after testing positive. (see and hear him over video calls!)

MrsWarleggan · 15/12/2020 20:21

@Returnofthemaccys

You could be asymptomatic though 🤷‍♀️

I was either 6 days or 4 days (part time worker)

Returnofthemaccys · 15/12/2020 21:48

These short incubation times are making me feel a bit better. It's like waiting for the axe to fall.
