My isolation is up tomorrow. DS due back to work

He's desperate to go back. He hasn't been paid and he's missed it. He was only back at work one day, after previously being contacted by test and trace, before I got my symptoms.

He has no symptoms, although he did have a sore throat for a couple of days, he tested negative.

It just seems unlikely that he won't have caught it from me.

Should he go back as planned? Have another test despite no symptoms?

If you have been following the rules properly (as in isolating within the house, as you should have been as if DS is old enough to have a job he is old enough to understand the need) there is very little risk that he has caught the virus from you if he is still not symptomatic.

He can go back when his isolation period ends. Which is 10 days after your positive result.

It's not it's 10 days after onset of my symptoms, I.e. the same day as me.

We've been apart in the house but shared a bathroom and kitchen etc. We don't live on a country estate with acres between us.

There have been plenty of anecdotal cases where only one person in a couple has caught it despite sharing a bed. And even more where not every member of a household has caught it.
I think it is very likely he hasn't caught it if he has no symptoms and you followed self isolation advice. As long as this remains the case he can return to work at the end of his isolation period.

If his isolation period is up, it's up.

myhobbyisouting · 15/12/2020 18:36

I don't know what you're asking. Should he stop isolating when he is able to stop isolating?

Well yes, he'll have to if he wants to keep his job

I tested positive last week & my OH nor 3 year old have shown any symptoms. My 8 month old has. Our isolation is up tomorrow & I cannot wait to get us all out the door! DD1 is back to nursery. OH has a haircut & I’m going to put DD2 down for a nap & lay on the sofa, in a silent, tidy house & watch a Christmas film. I cannot wait. Isolating while poorly with young kids has been HELL.

Yes of course he can go back to work when his isolation ends. No you don't get him tested first, you already used a test on him with no covid symptoms - don't waste another!

He had a sore throat and a runny nose, same as me with my positive test.

Ok, so if he's safe to go back to his customer facing role, is he OK to visit your my mum? I'm just concerned that it doesn't seem very responsible.

He’s following the guidelines. It’s quite possible he has already had it and was asymptomatic but not everyone in close contact with an infectious person automatically comes down with it.

It’s not 10 days since the test but since the last time they had contact before starting feeling ill.

My son went to nursery Friday. 4th.
A boy from his class fell in on Sunday 6.
Positive 7th.

My son came out of isolation yesterday 14 as it had been 10 days since the last time they were together (nursery called us to tell us they were expecting him today).

MistletoeandGin · 15/12/2020 20:26

Is his isolation period up officially? If yes, he can and should go back to work. If not, he should wait until it is.

MistletoeandGin · 15/12/2020 20:29

And yes, I’d happily let him see my mum. She went back to work in the NHS (patient facing) 10 days after testing positive, as her isolation was over and that was what they expected.

myhobbyisouting · 15/12/2020 21:33

So how long do you think he should stay home?!
