Positive case in DDs bubble back in school

Hi, someone in DDs bubble at secondary school was off because her brother tested positive. During isolation she tested positive. There were mixed messages from her to DD about when she was coming back into school, varying from after Xmas to yesterday.
I have health problems so contacted the school to see why the return to school had been bought forward.
Teacher said it had always been agreed she could come back in later this week if symptom free.
She came in today and sat next to DD. She still had a temperature on Sunday but I don't know about yesterday.
Should I be worried? When do people stop being contagious? I thought at least 24 hours after temp had gone. They were going to send her in yesterday until I contacted the school so I don't really trust that she didn't still have a temp yesterday.

Is she still contagious? I'm isolating myself just in case for three days to see what happens. Is that OTT?

Thanks

I think it goes from when symptoms start. 10 days from that even if you have symptoms you're ok to go back into school as not contagious.... so they say.

Yes, that's what the school said but I don't know when the symptoms started. I assume the school know when the test came back but it was all very weird.
She told my DD that is took ages for the results to come back because she had to have 3 tests because they were inconclusive. Sounds like BS to me. I think they just wanted to get her back in school because they all been isolating for weeks because their son had it. She got her test result Wednesday last week.
DD asked her when her symptoms started and she said 12 days ago that wears a few days ago so that would be 15 days by now which would mean is took 9 days for the results to come back, it just doesn't sound right, especially since originally she said she couldn't come back until after Christmas which would fit with symptoms starting beginning of last week and results coming back on Wednesday.

When I contacted the school they said she would be back "later" this week, which to me doesn't mean Tuesday!

I'm going to isolate myself anyway, not difficult because I'm at home and in bed most of the time anyway

They say you are most contagious 2 days before symptoms start. I’ve read lots of people still have slight temperature after the 10 days are up, but professionals say you are no longer contagious then, so hopefully your DD’s friend is now ok to return to school.

The guidance when you have a positive test is pretty explicit. You should not return to work etc for if you still have a temperature at the end of the 10 day isolation. You are supposed to wait until 48 hours afterwards.

That's reassuring thanks, I'm sure the risk is low but I'm isolating anyway Smile

So 48 hours after temp goes? She definitely didn't do that

From gov website

Keep self-isolating if you have any of these symptoms after 10 days:
• a high temperature or feeling hot and shivery
• a runny nose or sneezing
• feeling or being sick
• diarrhoea
Only stop self-isolating when these symptoms have gone.
If you have diarrhoea or you're being sick, stay at home until 48 hours after they've stopped.

So if her temp had gone and it was over 10 days (who knows ?) it would be ok for her to be in school.
