Has anyone’s child been really unwell with Covid?

I asked this before about 6 months ago and didn’t get many replies. My DS was 14 in May and was REALLY unwell with Covid (slim and no underlying health conditions). He had a raging temperature for 15 days which didn’t come down despite constant paracetamol and ibuprofen. He didn’t eat for all that time and barely drank anything. He vomited up the smoothie I forced him to drink. He developed a rash (I thought it was meningitis) and his heart was galloping so much I could feel it if I hugged him.

We had zero support and the GP wouldn’t come near him. We were just told that if his temperature didn’t come down by the Monday, to drive him to hospital. It started to come down on the Sunday after 15 days of not eating and barely drinking. He had kidney pains etc and I was scared that it was Covid too. It was bloody horrific. He told me afterwards that he thought he was going to die. He was gaunt and yellow for a couple of months afterwards.

He can’t be the only one to have been so ill? I don’t understand why I haven’t heard of any other teens being so unwell. Is no one talking about it or was he just very unlucky?

squit

Id like to say shes ok but she has just spent over an hour sat on my lap...she’s days off 19! 😀

Shes very tired but i have just asked her if its worse since she was ill and she says no, so that’s good (and obviously she may not have had it anyway)

My friend’s six year old son has got it and he was quite poorly.

He’s on day 6 now since the onset of symptoms and his mum said he’s starting to perk up a little. He’s been suffering with high fevers, really lethargic and just wanting to stay in bed and not wanting to eat or drink.

No cough though or changes to his taste/smell.

It just shows how few children have been ill or this thread would have been inundated.

My DC haven't but they are very young. However I do believe it went to my kidneys. I shared a bottle of drink with my DH a few days before and he was the first to get symptoms/test positive. After a few days I got excrutiating pains in my back and slight blood in urine.

Thanks for your replies.Yes, obviously most children haven’t been very unwell on the whole. I guess my son must just have been very unlucky. My friend’s son (a teen) has had dreadful consequences from having chicken pox. I suppose it’s like someone said, viruses can do unexpectedly awful things.

It is interesting that some work going on quietly in the background has started identifying some genetic strands that make some people far more susceptible to these awful effects in order to develop treatments. I read they have identified 6 key ones and it could be your son is one.

Doesn't help but genetic flaws as such can get worse with age which might explain why kids rarely suffer but what was wrong with your case was the doctor not coming near him! Being yellow signifies real potential problems

My friends wife got diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at the start of the pandemic and her treatment was delayed terribly. Means her life is now months and not years
