Chance to get vaccine tomorrow and TTC

20 replies

MrsWildermac · 14/12/2020 22:45

So, have been TTC for approx 5 yrs, fertility tests ongoing, delayed because of Covid etc. Have opportunity to have vaccine tomorrow but still a tiny chance that this could be our month. AF not due for another 8 days...should I take the vaccine?! No reason to think this our month more than any other but more the 'what if's'...

Can you continue to TTC in the months following a vaccine according to advice?
Do you need the vaccine due to safety at work?

Mousehole10 · 14/12/2020 22:57

I’d take the vaccine. The advice is not to ttc for a few months after taking it but it’s precautionary.

MrsWildermac · 14/12/2020 23:47

Thanks. My main concern are the potential of hurting a potential fetus but its very hypothetical.

Yes, no TTC for three months afterwards. Going to try and use it as an opportunity to.get healthy and shrink the huge fibroid which has taken up residence in my uterus!

@Reindeermayhem - we are being offered it to help reduce staff sickness if there is an outbreak within the home.

In a similar boat. I can get the Pfizer vaccine through work but am TTC. I haven't signed up for it and probably won't if I conceive this month. Will be a tricky conversation to have with my manager. She wants me to have it.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation advise to hold off if you're planning on becoming pregnant in the 3 months following the vaccination. I'd follow the scientific experts.

@Mousehole10

I’d take the vaccine. The advice is not to ttc for a few months after taking it but it’s precautionary

Do you realise how irresponsible this advice is?

Myshinynewname · 15/12/2020 09:33

I really wouldn't take the vaccine if there's a chance you could be pregnant. There is no safety data. I am a huge supporter of the vaccine in general and will be having it but I'm not planning a pregnancy. I think you need to wait and check then decide to take a short break from TTC before you have it.

florafoxtrot · 15/12/2020 09:37

What a hard decision. Flowers

What stage are you at in your fertility investigations? These can take a few months anyway and I'd hope being vaccinated wouldn't prevent those tests from going ahead. I think in your position I would take the vaccine and as you say spend these months trying to be as healthy as possible. That's not to say that its easy because I expect you feel like each cycle is an opportunity and its hard to put that on hold so you are absolutely allowed to feel that the whole thing is totally shitty.

The current advice is not to have it while pregnant or breastfeeding so assuming you move to treatment - you might be waiting really quite a long time to get it.

Keepdistance · 15/12/2020 09:43

Chance of conceiving normally is only about 20% a month and thats in the first year. After 5yrs you are surely down to a very low chance.
Ivf etc is a very long journey even without covid.

ForeverAintEnough · 15/12/2020 10:26

@MrsWildermac
I would take the vaccine. Unfortunately after so many years ttc it’s very unlikely this month is the month (speaking from experience unfortunately) and it would be great to be going into ivf fully vaccinated and without that worry of potentially getting covid during it and while (hopefully) pregnant. Also like your plan of taking a break for the 3 months and focus on yourself and self care as ttc every month is draining too.

MrsWildermac · 15/12/2020 11:05

Thank you @ForeverAintEnough - your message was lovely. Have just taken the vaccine, going to relax and enjoy Christmas and then going to try and shift the 2st that's piled on through stress eating!

@MrsWildermac well done. It’ll be great not to have the worry of getting it as you continue your ttc journey! Good luck with the weight loss and enjoy Christmas! I’m over on the infertility board with a lot of others in a similar boat if you’re looking for support next year following on from your tests. 🎅🏻

Reindeermayhem · 15/12/2020 18:43

All the best - hoping you stay free of COVID and are able to get a BFF in 2021!

Keepdistance · 15/12/2020 20:09

Thats ggod.

ttc is so stressful.really dont need the worry about getting covid badly in pregnancy.

gypsywater · 15/12/2020 20:13

I'm NHS frontline so under a lot of pressure to have the vaccine but I wont be having it due to TTC

NotMrsTumble · 15/12/2020 20:24

Plus the USA are advising that the vaccine is not contra-indicated if TTC, PG or BF. See for a discussion of covid vaccine if TTC /PG/BF in the States.

trulydelicious · 15/12/2020 22:17

@NotMrsTumble

Why would you rather believe advice from the US rather than the UK?

The US attitude seems to be increasingly cavalier regarding the Pfizer vaccine

MrsWildermac · 15/12/2020 22:57

Thank you @foreveraintenough - I might pluck up courage to come and join you!

Thanks @keepingdistance Flowers

@gypseywater - I'm seeing it as an opportunity to take the pressure off TTC for a bit. We could def do with it. After five years, three months isn't that long in the grand scheme of things.
