Think I'm going to keep mine out this week. We are in London & people are dropping like flies. Anyone else?

Mine are out as school shut, also London. But I think way things are I wouldn’t be sending them back in tomorrow. It’s not fair on the teaching staff and risks anyone seeing elderly relatives over Xmas. Which we have decided not to do, but we haven’t had covid as yet & id prefer to stay that way as husband is vulnerable

Muchtoomuchtodo · 13/12/2020 22:18

Greatful here that comprehensives have all switched to online learning from tomorrow 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Covidnomore · 13/12/2020 22:20

No.

They finish on Thursday and school have had no bubbles popped at all.

We have made decision to keep to ourselves at Xmas so if we did have to isolate then its no biggie.

In fact, if they have to do it, over Xmas would have least impact on us.

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 14/12/2020 01:00

My DD last day was Friday. Our choice.

School itself doesn't close until Friday.

3 of 7 classes now isolating. I don't think teachers should be forced to mix this week when they could do online learning and question the sanity of any parents who could have children at home, choosing to send them in.

Key workers are obviously a different matter

Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady · 14/12/2020 01:01

*until next Friday that should say

JaquiMcquacky · 14/12/2020 01:03

I’m letting mine go in until Tuesday, they’re supposed to finish on Friday. It’s just not worth it to jeopardise their Christmas.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/12/2020 06:00

No. DS's school has had no cases for weeks despite us being in tier 3. I have to work anyway so it wouldn't be at all practical.

Toomanycases · 14/12/2020 06:32

Mine are going in until school closes on Friday. I’d consider keeping them off this week but as I’m a teacher and so will be working until Friday there doesn’t seem much point.

Mumdiva99 · 14/12/2020 06:36

I have 2 home but the 3rd will be in. The last week is fun....she missed so much fun over the summer and it's her last year of primary. These are all bonding events with classmates and she's still quite new to the school. So no.....she's going in.

We have kept Xmas plans quiet just in case....so we will suck up any isolation if necessary.

poshme · 14/12/2020 06:37

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady do you question the he sanity of all parents or just those at your school?

My kids have had no periods on SI this term at all. We're in a low case area.

I don't think sending them to school is insanity.

SquashedFlyBiscuitsForSanta · 14/12/2020 06:38

If you are planning on seeing vulnerable/elderly people, I would get them out of school now if you can. I am a teacher. We will not be seeing family at Christmas.

Clockstop · 14/12/2020 06:39

No, I'm working, I need DD in school. Usually work is quite relaxed this time of year - lots of Xmas lunches etc but this year it's all been cancelled and replaced with pushes to get lots of projects finished by Xmas and being fuelled by people with no childcare issues who are working all hours.

Backbee · 14/12/2020 06:41

Key workers are obviously a different matter

Surely all workers are a different matter, just because you don't work in a key worker role, I'm not sure they'll be happy with you just taking a week off Confused

HelenaJustina · 14/12/2020 06:43

Just out of interest, if you take your DC out early, do you expect work to be set and marked in the same way as if they had to be off? (eg identified as close contact or bubble burst)
Remote learning is trickiest and least effective when we have some children in the classroom and some at home.

3littlewords · 14/12/2020 06:46

No theres only been 1 case in the school since September and the school have gone to extra lengths to arrange some Christmas activities for the children that I'd hate for them to miss out on. If on the off-chance their bubbles pop and they have to isolate over Christmas its no big deal we have planned a quiet Christmas at home anyway

SKYTVADDICT · 14/12/2020 06:48

Wish I could but can't really justify it. Large comprehensive. One going back today after 2 weeks isolation and we've had an email from school saying no work will be set if we keep them off. Think they are expecting it though!

3littlewords · 14/12/2020 06:53

This!
I'm sure people think the majority of people are still furloughed!
Whatwouldscullydo · 14/12/2020 06:56

I'm keeping dd1 home now.

They have already had to shut down 2 year groups fir 2 days each becuase of staffing issues and we get daily emails informing us of another case . She was meant to finish out last week but her yr closed so shes off from today.

What are you all telling the school?

Lampzade · 14/12/2020 06:57

My ds ‘s whole year group is isolating, so we don’t have any choice but to keep him at home

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/12/2020 07:05

@Iremembertheelderlykoreanlady you do know that non key workers have to work as well?

EndoplasmicReticulum · 14/12/2020 07:09

Was thinking about it it, but year 11 just back today after isolation and some of his mock exams are this week so he feels he ought to go, I'm letting him decide.

Covidnomore · 14/12/2020 07:12

So it seems I am insane for prioritising school over Christmas Hmm.

My kids would struggle with 2 weeks not going over the door and we will only do it if we absolutely have too. As a family of 4 we can't fully self isolate as DH goes to work. So the risk is still there.

I actually object to being insane when I think many people will take their kids out of school but carry on with all the fun Xmas activities, and then go and see elderly relatives.

Whatwouldscullydo · 14/12/2020 07:17

You aren't insane at all.

Everyone should just do what they feel is best fir their family and frankly its no one else's business.

Of course someone who's kids go to a school with 1 or 2 cases since September won't make the same decision as someone who's kids school like dds which has 20-30 percent of a yer group isolating akd sending daily warning emails

It will obviously make a difference also if you have an 11 yr old yr 7 or a 15 Yr old yr 10 and how long you are out at work each day.

Theromanempire · 14/12/2020 07:24

Since when did school become optional?!

So all those who are taking their DC out of school, are you planning on not stepping foot outside of the house until Christmas Day? Otherwise, you are not properly isolating are you? So no trips to the supermarket? No taking the children to the park?

And, yet again, keyworker children are screwed as they don't have this option so therefore are more likely to end up isolating over Christmas Hmm

mne13 · 14/12/2020 07:28

My DD year 8 has been home learning for the last week, got emailed last night to say school closes on Thursday and she is to remain home and come back in on Thursday for the last day!
I am not sending her back for one day, seems silly too, her year was closed due to lack of staff but even so I don't feel going back for one day is constructive.
