Tier 3 - hotel to visit child in hospital?

Just wondering if anyone had experienced this yet?

We live in a tier 2 area, my DD has recently been admitted to a specialist hospital for a medical condition she has. This hospital is in a tier 3 area, 3 hrs drive from us. We (one parent only) are only able to visit for an hour once a week due to COVID restrictions.

Am I able to stay in a hotel overnight to break up the journey as the visits are for set times late on in the day and the driving is a lot for me all in one day. This week I’ve done it in a day but if possible on the odd occasion I’d like to be able to drive back the following day, obviously only if it is allowed.

Thanks in advance

I don’t know the answer but it might be worth asking PALs ( patient liaison service) at the hospital as other parents may already have asked the question- so they may know where to find the answer.

How old is DD?

I'm in tier 3 and the hotels are closed. I think you can still book airb&b though.

maryberryslayers · 13/12/2020 19:39

But you can stay in hotels that are open en route though.

I stayed in a hotel during lockdown last month. I just had to say why (daughter doing entrance exams). You are allowed to stay in a hotel for certain reasons even during lockdown. Call them and ask.

I'm guessing this Could be a mental health/eating disorders clinic? A very young child wouldn't be separated from their parents like this except for 1 hour per week

Assuming the medical condition she has doesn't make her clinically vulnerable to covid then yes I would stay in a hotel If you can find one - most tier 3 hotels I know are shut. If she is clinically vulnerable then no I would do the drive but I'm comfortable doing such long drives in a day abs appreciate it isn't for everyone

I stayed in a Premier Inn for a couple of nights during the recent lockdown - I just had to declare that my reason was one of the listed ones allowed (caring responsibility). It was very clean and safe, and very empty.

Of course you c an. Sad you’re even asking tbis

Yes, I’m sure it’s allowed. Obviously you have to find somewhere that is open and may need calling to book, rather than online.

Thank you everyone for your help.

@maryberryslayers DD is 15.
@ivfbeenbusy yes it is one of those types of clinics and no it doesn’t make her clinically vulnerable to covid.
@madaboutrunning it’s a premier inn I’ve been looking at and they say they’re still open but only for bookings from people who are allowed to use them.

So you should be fine then. I had booked prior to lockdown so am not sure how it works now. All that happened was I got an email asking me to cancel if I did not meet one of the reasons for staying away from home. There was certainly nothing to fill in nor did I have to speak to anyone.
