Self isolating child

I’m new to this-we live in a fairy low infection area. My son has to self isolate as his teacher has tested positive. I know the rest of us can carry on but is it worth it for the last week of school (probably the nicest with a few xmas end of term things going on) I can drive so can leave him in the car which is visible? Or just not risk it and all stay at home?

Should of mentioned I have two other school aged children!

What?

This doesn't make any sense

Waves12345 · 13/12/2020 16:08

Should I send the other two children to school? I have to drive to take them to school and would have to take the child self isolating?

This is completely up to you. We don't know what you should or shouldn't do

What do you want to do?

StatisticalSense · 13/12/2020 17:06

He can't go in the car and mustn't leave the house. Unless you have someone else who can take the others to school or he is old enough to be left alone whilst you do the school run they can't go to school.

Augustbreeze · 13/12/2020 17:07

You can't ask anyone else to take them? Alternatively, some schools have allowed special arrangements eg using staff car park, for dropping off siblings in these circs.

EmilyInParis · 13/12/2020 17:08

Pretty sure your other kids will be marked as unauthorised absence if you don't. We had a delightful letter reminding us we would be fined if we did.

myhobbyisouting · 13/12/2020 17:09

@EmilyInParis we had the opposite and have been told no fines would be sought in these circumstances

Rubbish.

It is recognised that for a child isolating due to contact, that it is necessary to take them out for essential activities such as taking siblings to school. It should be done in as low a risk way as is practical, but it is recognised that it's not practical to curtail the entire family because of the care needs of children.

Augustbreeze · 13/12/2020 18:27

What evidence do you have for this statement, @BogRollBOGOF ?

myhobbyisouting · 13/12/2020 19:22

"If you are living with children, keep following this guidance to the best of your ability, however, we are aware that not all these measures will be possible."

From gov.uk isolation guidance for contacts

@myhobbyisouting oh how I wish that was the case here, sadly not.

Not to worry though as the school have just mass text us all from the secondary putting a year group into isolation until the 21st. Solved that problem.
