So I’m in the Derbyshire Dales, does anyone think we might be moved down to a tier two on Wednesday? Our rates were never particularly high and I believe they’ve fallen since the last review.
Very rural here, more sheep than people where I am! So seems absurd to me that we’re in tier three and London is in tier two.

The number of cases has gone up slightly but the number of people in hospital has gone down.

@Chosennonesneakymincepie

Completely agree. Our nearest hospitals are both in Cheshire and both in Tier 2. Occasionally people from the High Peak go to Chesterfield but it's not the norm.
I’m in High Peak but closer to greater Manchester so our local hospital is in tameside. Our rates have fallen dramatically - rate of 49.1/100k population in the week up to 8 Dec according to the government COVID dashboard. Hovering around 3-5 cases in any 7 day period. I think we may stay in tier 3 because of our proximity to GM, assuming they aren’t downgraded.

Really they need to carve up large counties like Derbyshire. The variance is huge.

I’m in Glossopdale. Numbers in Glossop itself are very low but surrounding villages have gone up a bit.

I think that's a possibility, but unlikely to be considered until after about mid-January, when there is some idea of the size of increase following Christmas

I am in Staffordshire and we are tier 3. I live rurally and our numbers are low, I am on the Staffordshire/ Derbyshire border. Due to numbers being much higher in Stoke on Trent / Derby we will stay in Tier 3

@BogRollBOGOF

I'd just love to break up a tedious weekend by going into a pub for lunch rather than Greggs or McDonalds in the car.

Lovely village pub nearby finally managed to open in August after their inital plans for April after a couple of years of closure and a refurbishment. I want them to survive.

You aren't talking about the Bluebell are you? 😂
DerbyshireMama · 14/12/2020 09:44

Bloody quote fail. I can't see Derbyshire entering into tier 2 unfortunately. Cases in south Derbyshire where I am are up 40% on last week and I don't think TPTB are particularly bothered about letting us provincial northern folk have any sort of enjoyment in the run up to Christmas.

THATbasicSNOWFLAKE · 14/12/2020 10:04

Cases in High Peak are also up 40% in the past 7 days

Changeismyname i'm Glossopdale too

The oddity with Derbyshire is that its geography really matters. The pennines and the size of the county mean that there's little relation between the behaviour and risks in the south of the county, which borders Leicestershire and may use LRI or George Elliot as their hospital, and places in the North of the county which may use Tameside or Sheffield. Glossop is more likely to be influenced by rates and risks in Manchester than whatever is happening in Derby.

I share the frustration, we live in a rural county, but whose city authority is a bit of a basket case. As that is our hospital then I can see us being in tier 3 for some time, despite having super low rates.
