2yr old DS has a temp! Panicking

DS has developed a temp this evening after not wanting his dinner.
He's been jolly and laughing and playing but just before he slept he got a temp. No other symptoms and I feel fine but I'm panicking it might be the virus.
He had the flu vaccine 10 days ago, could it be that? Thought I might have had the heating on too high but its been off for an hour now and he's still very hot.
Ordered him a test and won't go out until results but just scared for him

Try and remember there are so many other bugs going around. I’ve had many friends have their little ones tested and none have yet tested positive. The very vast majority of young children cope well with Covid too. I totally understand your worry though. You’ve ordered a test and he seemed well before bed. Remember a temperature is a sign of his body doing what it needs to do and killing off bugs and isn’t anything to worry about in itself. I hope he’s brighter in the morning and you get your test results back quickly.

Monitor him closely and if you are at all concerned call 111. I have been known (pre covid!) to pop a duvet on the floor and spend the night in the kids room, if I wanted to be extra careful, give Calpol every 4 hours (as per instructions) and keep temp down. Do whatever you need to do to get some sleep, so you are rested and know that they are okay x

My 2 year old DD had it a few weeks ago, her temp was very high and I gave her calpol, it brought her temp down and the day after she was absolutely fine.
My friends son was exactly the same when he had it, I think the temp was possibly the peak of the illness and then they were both fine the day after.

It's hard but try and not worry OP, as PP said children arent affected as badly as adults, keep that in your mind.
I hope you manage some sleep tonight x

Thanks all for advice.
Temp has come down slightly but paracetamol not taking it away completely.
Hes his usual self which is a relief. Still dancing and jumping around everywhere, but he doesn't seem hungry at all, not even for some choccy buttons.
He had weetabix and strawberries in the morning but he brought it back up not long after. Feel so sorry for him.
Done the covid test. I think once I get the result of that I will feel a lot better
Thank you all for your posts Flowers

My 8 month old currently has COVID. Try not to worry, it’s really mild in 99.9% of children. DD has a fever for a day & was clearly pretty miserable but now it’s just become a really snotty cold like illness. She’s right as rain bar excessive snot & being very angry she can’t breathe through her mouth & keep a dummy in to settle to sleep 😫

There are plenty bugs going around. Everything my kids got at that age caused a temp. Even if it's covid he will be fine. No need to panic and you'll just make yourself stressed when you don't need to be. Kids get temperatures it's good. It means their body is fighting whatever virus it is.

ah bless it sounds like he's doing ok which is the main thing - mine got all kinds of fevers all the time when they were 2. Are you aware of any cases among friends you've seen or his nursery (if he goes?). If not he's very unlikely to have covid. Hope he manages the test ok. He won't like it but he'll forget extremely quickly.

Frazzled2207 · 13/12/2020 22:26

just re-read and realise he's already managed the test .Well done. I found it really challenging with a five year old.
