Would you cancel?

My mobile hairdresser has just messaged to say her son is home due to cases in his year group. She doesn't have symptoms and nor do the people she lives with but do I still want her to do my hair or would I like to cancel. I'm in regular contact with my elderly parents. What would you do?

I'd have my hair done, personally.

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 11/12/2020 14:34

Assuming she follows the usual ppe guidance I would have my hair cut.

MistletoeandGin · 11/12/2020 14:35

I’d have my hair done.

edwinbear · 11/12/2020 14:53

I'd 100% have my hair done.

Angel2702 · 11/12/2020 14:54

Have my hair done contacts of contacts aren’t required to stop working.

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 11/12/2020 16:44

I'd cancel, though it seems, I'm more cautious than most. A haircut isn't worth the risk, to me.

zafferana · 11/12/2020 16:47

It depends how you feel OP and how high the rate of localised transmissions are where you are. If you're in a low transmission area I'd go ahead, a high one - it's up to you.

PurpleDaisies · 11/12/2020 16:48

Have your hair done.

Contacts of contacts don’t need to isolate.

Mindymomo · 11/12/2020 16:49

I would cancel, but then I am not doing anything anyway. Had 1 haircut in September, the first since March.

criminalheartless · 11/12/2020 16:52

I'd have my hair cut.

PleasantVille · 11/12/2020 16:54

I'd have my hair cut, hairdressers have rules they work under, I wouldn't worry at all

kittenpeak · 11/12/2020 16:55

I would probably risk it, but don't listen to strangers.

More importantly, should the whole household not be isolating like her son? Her son probably can't self isolate in a room in the house and will be mixing with everyone else... I don't have school age children so don't know the expectations.

Mother40 · 11/12/2020 17:22

I'd cancel. I wouldn't feel comfortable myself. I'm surprised at how many would still go.

MistletoeandGin · 11/12/2020 17:53

@Mother40

I'd cancel. I wouldn't feel comfortable myself. I'm surprised at how many would still go.
The chances of her son contracting it from the positive case at school are very slim (outside or household transmission, the percentage of people who go on to test positive after being identified as a ‘close contact’ is 1.4%). So there’s a 98.6% chance the child hasn’t caught it from their close contact at school. Then the child will have had to pass it on to his mum (household transmission is thought to be about 50%), and his mum would have to be either pre symptomatic or asymptomatic to then pass it on to the OP (bearing in mind they’ll also be wearing PPE). Barely seems like a risk to me.
trader21c · 11/12/2020 17:53

I’d cancel it’s not worth it

Jrobhatch29 · 11/12/2020 17:58

I would go ahead. Our mobile barber came to our house at the weekend to cut DP hair and both my sons. I have no idea who she has been in contact with. She wore mask and visor, we wore masks and had windows open.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 11/12/2020 18:00

I’d cancel but I’d not have booked in the first place as too high a risk for something non essential.

MotherExtraordinaire · 11/12/2020 18:39

I'd be protecting your elderly parents rather than worrying about a hairdo which noone is really going to see anyway this year!

Neolara · 11/12/2020 18:45

How about she comes and cuts your hair in the garden?

CuppaZa · 11/12/2020 18:52

I’d cancel

DirtyDancing · 11/12/2020 22:13

My daughter is isolating and I cancelled my hair app this week. It’s just safer all round isn’t it. You could go, but it doesn’t mean you should.

milkysmum · 11/12/2020 22:29

People in the household of close contacts do not need to isolate themselves. I'm a nurse, and the manager of a care home. I have two children who have both had to isolate due to being in contact if confirmed cases in school several times now. I do not isolate when they do and carry on going to work as per government guidance.
