How long between announcing Tier 3 status and the shutters coming down?

Purely selfish reasons for asking - got a night out (dinner outside a pub with x2 friends) booked for next Thurs. It sounds likely that London will be told they will go up to tier 3 on Wed. How long from the announcement to implementation? Will we get our night out?

Not at all important in the scale of things obvs but would be good to know.

Thanks

My understanding is

Announcement on 16th

Implementation on 19th.

I would say you’re good to go.

It might depend what happens to the London numbers between now and then. When Greater Manchester went into increased measures (before the Tiers existed), it was announced at 10pm and came into effect at midnight 2 hours later. By which time I'd already broken the rules as was celebrating a special occasion with friends in a garden til 1am, oblivious to the announcement.

The news is reporting that the next review is the 16th and the announcement on the 17th.

"The government announced that the r eview would take place two weeks after the tier system was first implemented. This means the review will take place on Wednesday, December 16.

The announcement on any changes to the tier allocations is then expected the following day, on Thursday, December 17."

"Health secretary Matt Hancock told a Downing Street briefing last week: “We will look at the data on December 16 and will announce the results of that review on December 17."

So I think it'll be touch and go, and you probably won't know until the 17th.

I thought it was coming into effect on 18th December? Not that we will move down a tier - Labour area - but it’s nice to dream about going out for dinner before Christmas...

I work within LA covid planning in Greater Manchester and we've been advised to prepare for announcement of tier change on 16th for implementation at midnight on 18th. That's not confirmed - just rumour!!

Good. I know rates are still high in Bury and Rochdale etc but those of us in Stockport, Trafford etc need a bit of a break!
Hapixmas · 10/12/2020 22:10

I thought tiers could change any time? If numbers are high, I wouldn't count on them waiting.

superram · 10/12/2020 22:15

I believe it will begin 19th.

balzamico · 10/12/2020 22:37

They'll trickle it all out over the weekend so that by the time they announce it we all know and accept what they're going g to say.
I'm in tier 3, local restaranteur said that he understands it will be announce Wednesday to be implemented Saturday (to avoid Mad Friday)

userxx · 10/12/2020 23:53

@Frazzled2207 You're not wrong!!! It's been far too long.

AndcalloffChristmas · 11/12/2020 00:13

Selfishly, I’d much rather wait until 21st if my area does go into Tier 3! Not that it matters what I want.

HopeAndDriftWood · 13/12/2020 14:54

Our council has confirmed that they’ll be told of the tier change late on the 16th, announce it to us on the 17th and it’ll apply from 00:01 on the 18th in our town update today.
