Does this sound like coronavirus?

DS (4) has been sleeping most of the day and vomiting on and off. No other symptoms. I called Nursery to say he was going to be off until Monday. (48 hour vommiting rule). They have asked if we can get him tested as it is how Covid classically presents in children. If this true? I can't see anything online to suggest this. I called the GP due to the constant sleeping and lethargy. She also mentioned Covid and now I am worried about what I should do about him and his 7 year old brother.

It sounds like noro.

OrigamiPenguinArmy · 10/12/2020 13:02

Covid can present as a stomach upset in children so it’d be wise to get a test done.

BiscuitDrama · 10/12/2020 13:04

I’d get a test done, you all isolate until the test result comes back (and after, if it’s positive of course).

They are saying that gastrointestinal symptoms are how it’s often presenting in children.

IsABit2020 · 10/12/2020 14:15

Typically he is now running around and seems completely back to his normal self. Even more confused now.

I think if nursery have asked you to test him then it’s best to do that. Presuming he can’t go in tomorrow anyway due to the 48 hour rule, you should hopefully be able to get a test today & results back tomorrow. Obviously your older son would have to stay off whilst awaiting results but fingers crossed you will get the all clear quickly.

Whyarewehardofthinking · 10/12/2020 14:21

Please get a test. We had a year 7 vomit in lesson with no other symptoms. He kept vomiting to the point of going to A&E where he tested positive. 2 other students in the class tested positive within a week.

IsABit2020 · 10/12/2020 15:39

I have booked him a test now. He seems fine. No more sickness or lethargy. My 7 year old is going to miss a lot of Christmassy activities in school he was looking forward to which is upsetting. But I know needed

Test today and you should have the result tomorrow so won’t miss much school if negative.

Walkaround · 10/12/2020 16:01

Yes, children complaining of upset stomachs is exactly what immediately preceded numerous subsequent positive covid results at our school.

I didnt know it was a symptom in children.

Hope he is ok OP.

Sadly I can't drive because of poorly controlled epilepsy. So it will be however long a home test takes to get here and back.

Hopefully if negative, your eldest should be able to go back on Monday so shouldn't miss too much.

I did a home test in the summer - received it the day after I ordered, posted it back the following day, then received results around 28 hours after I put it in the post box.

yeOldeTrout · 16/12/2020 09:09

How is your son, OP? Do you have a test result?

Cyclingwidow15 · 16/12/2020 09:14

Interested to know what your sons results were isabit2020
My son had a slight temperature for less than 12 hours and tested positive. He was fine the whole time and has been running wild in the house with his older brother playing games. I think just because they appear fine it doesn’t mean it can’t be Covid. Children seem to be suffer very mildly.

chunkyfunk · 16/12/2020 09:28

My 9 year old tested positive Sunday he's been fine upto now but vomited once last night.

IsABit2020 · 16/12/2020 11:41

Yes. It came back positive. He is completely fine and has shown no other symptoms.

So he's all over the vomiting & fatigue now? That's good.
I hope the isolation period passes smoothly for the rest of you.
How large is the household you have to isolate? I hope this doesn't ruin your Christmas plans.

IsABit2020 · 17/12/2020 14:20

My DH & eldest DS also tested positive both with very mild symptoms. I'm the only one who so far (touch wood) has no symptoms at all. Luckily we had planned a quiet christmas just the 4 of us anyway.
