When will over seventies get vaccinated?

I can see all the information about the priority groups for phase one vaccines but I can't see any timelines against them. Whilst I understand it depends if/when the Oxford vaccine gets approved but what are peoples' best guesses for the timeline for the over 70s to get vaccinated?

Feb/March I reckon. Possibly still optimistic. I know the Oxford vaccine needs to get approved and it probably will soon but there are manufacturing difficulties with both that and Pfizer I understand. At least 40 million of each were supposed to be manufactured by the end of the year and it's going to be a small percentage of that.

On the basis they are hoping to have all the over 50's done by Easter, I reckon the over 70's will be in January.

Mallowmarshmallow · 09/12/2020 20:22

@PuzzledObserver ah, I hadn't heard that phase one should be complete by Easter...

Over 80s haven't got appointments yet, just the ones in hospitals, so Likely to be a while until the over 70s get done. Probably January?

Mindymomo · 09/12/2020 21:09

My GP surgery are getting ready to vaccinate from the 15 December, so would think they would need to start contacting the first group of over 80’s soon. Therefore the over 70’s should follow after, probably in January.

Hope so as my parents are over 70

AndcalloffChristmas · 09/12/2020 22:38

Jan/ Feb is what I’ve heard. Probably Feb I guess.

Smashedavacado · 09/12/2020 23:07

Think it may depend on areas. My FIL is 85 and not living in a care home or in hospital but has appointments for 15th December & 5th January. We are all delighted as he has stuck to isolation rules strictly since March.

FIL has an appointment for next week, he is 83 and vulnerable, MIL is spitting feathers because she has not been offered the Vaccine, although she is also 83 and vulnerable. It does seem daft to vaccinate one person when they are the same age and isolating together.

in this case I would be suggesting to Mil that she calls the people who called up Fil and asks them what the plan is. I suspect she is just a little further down the list but in cases like surely it would make practical sense for them to go together - I suspect that is tricky as medical records don't necessarily link people together like this.

@Mallowmarshmallow I can't cite a reference I'm afraid, but I saw somewhere they were hoping all the most vulnerable would be done by Easter. I took that to mean all of phase one, but I suppose it could have meant down to step 6, but not the healthy 50-64's.

Hopefully soon both my parents are 78 and my mum is clinically very vulnerable .
