Hi just wondered if anyone else had symptoms affecting the brain?my mum had Covid in Oct and was hospitalised and thankfully came home after a week. Since leaving hospital she has become confused and forgetful (this is not like her) she is 70 and is physically fine but she's saying all her Christmas presents are sorted and she's still got stuff to buy and doing washing again when it's been done. She booked in Dr next week but just wondered if anyone else had any similar experiences after Covid x

I'm in my mid forties and had terrible brain fog for months. Literally had no short term memory. It's returned slowly along with my smell.

Another one who struggled with short term memory in the first few months following coronavirus. I still have occasional problems but nowhere near so badly as before, and these may be due to menopause.

But yes, your mum should speak to her gp. Can you go with her? Might be useful to give an account of the changes as you see them and to remember what is said.

Is she taking vit d?
I have awful short term memory so not sure if id be able to tell.
But my memory is worse after april i think. I even forgot to brush dc1 teeth this morning. Its things like actors names, have i locked the back door.

Thanks for replying, yes im going with her to Drs, she's only just admitted there was an issue and was bottling it all up. She takes no vitiams or any medication.

Yes my MIL is like this. She's early 60s. Caught COVD, was very mild, recovered quickly, but is now frail and forgetful like an old woman. It's heartbreaking.

PatsyStone39 · 09/12/2020 21:01

I was like this for months....i couldn't find names. I could see the person in my mind but their name totally escaped me. Thankfully, that and the other brain fog and forgetfulness seems to have gone.

A friends father was also like this. I think it got better over time.

Layniboggs123 · 09/12/2020 22:01

Thanks everyone hopefully she will be back to her usual self soon xx

Maybe not soon. But hopefully within the year.

I have, I'm 37. I had no real respiratory symptoms, just felt exhausted and while I had the actual Covid I genuinely felt like I was drunk/on drugs. I was almost delirious at one point. I had neurological symptoms like confusion, pins and needles, numbness etc.

I'm now about 5 weeks post infection and I still wake in the night with pins and needles and I still have this weird fuzzy brain feeling. This gets worse if I'm tired or stressed. I find it hard especially if I have a few things I need to do I can't decide which to do first, I can't work out how to tackle problems. Not sure if this is connected but my hands and toes are frequently feeling freezing cold.

I have a really dulled appetite although I have retained my sense of taste, and I have been incredibly emotional. The first week back at work I just cried constantly. I actually think it upended my brain chemistry and my seratonin/dopamine levels.

I don't think we should underestimate the power of this 'mild virus' and it's capabilities. I think we will be learning about it for years to come and a lot will he discovered. I can't believe the 'whole body' effect of it, and also how it has affected people so differently, with no pattern. Heard of someone with stage 3 lung cancer yesterday, who had nothing more than a mild cold, and yet someone fit and healthy ended up in icu unable to breathe.
