Sick of Covid? Well ignore the NHS symptom restriction & test if you have others

Seriously. After an outbreak where I work we've all just ticked the box even though we've not had the major symptoms, but we have had others. E.g. Sore throat, congestion etc etc... And guess what? All of us that did that came back positive.

That's one big factor why it's not under control, people just aren't testing themselves if they don't have the NHS three.

Just tried to post saying ‘ignore that, wrong thread’ but it’s disappeared. Think either me or my phone need a nap Smile

This is what my local authority say

If you have any of the following symptoms of coronavirus:

a high temperature
a new, continuous cough
a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste

or if you're asked to by NHS Test and Trace, you must isolate immediately, book a coronavirus test online or by ringing 119, and remain in isolation until you receive your test result.

Precautionary symptoms

It is possible to catch coronavirus and not display any symptoms. Many people who have tested positive also displayed other symptoms. Residents are therefore advised to book a coronavirus test as a precaution if they have symptoms such as:

Headaches
Aches and pains
Feeling very tired for no good reason
Sore throat
Runny nose
Sneezing
Sometimes ‘tummy ache’ in children

If you have one or more of these additional symptoms, go online to book your test using the link above and when you are able to, select the option “My local council or health protection team has asked me (or someone I live with) to get a test, even though I do not have symptoms.”

I had a really sore throat for about 10 days when the boyfriend is convinced he had Covid In March.

Seriouslymole · 10/12/2020 11:50

@wheresmyliveship

Agree. I was nauseous and threw up for over 48 hours before I got a cough. I carried on as normal so god knows how many people I infected.

My advice to anyone now is to get tested if you feel a bit “off”

At the risk of sounding rude - why on earth were you carrying on as normal if you had vomiting? You should have stayed at home anyway. Why is it OK to infect everyone with a vomiting bug?
Thismummyruns · 10/12/2020 11:57

I had a test this morning after reading this thread last night.
I have displayed non of the '3' symptoms however I have had a 3 day headache, sore throat, lethargy, sneezing, runny nose.

My OH said it's just a cold. I'm in the other camp of, taking an extra precaution incase it is as I have been in work, will need to go to work and DC's of school age and in childcare bubbles. I can't be the reason other people become ill or school year gets closed down.

Currently feeling very sorry for myself wondering if I've wasted a test slot if it comes back negative as it's 'just a cold' but equally praying it's not positive.

Northernsoullover · 11/12/2020 22:30

You haven't wasted a test this plenty of worried well waste a test. At least you have symptoms of some description.

ladylunchalot · 11/12/2020 23:11

There needs to be much more mass testing set up around the UK. Any other countries that have managed to get more on top of it have done so by testing. Why are we still lagging behind??

Lemons1571 · 12/12/2020 00:15

I’ve had 3 “colds” since schools went back in November. Will never know if any of them were covid, as my temp never went above 37.5 and I didn’t have a continuous cough. So no test for me!

September even

hellswelshy · 13/12/2020 10:16

Agree. I was poorly for about 2weeks with main symptoms being red sore eyes and fatigue, headaches. None of the main 3 symptoms. Then our LA decided to update the criteria to 'generally unwell ' for testing but this was after me being ill for two weeks. Both me and my dh got tested, me negative and him positive! So my assumption is that I had it first, then passed it to dh..
