A pupil of mine had covid a few weeks ago. Shes sick again now and Dr has suggested it may be long covid. Can you still test positive/be infectious with this?

I thought with some people the nature of the virus is that you seem better then can get worse again? If she only had covid a few weeks ago then she just may not be 100% better again?

Ok thanks, I sent her home Monday and shes off today but just had a message that's shes back in tomorrow, none of 3 main symptoms but all of the family had covid and none had the 3 main symptoms so was wondering if she was ok to be in school....

It’s highly unlikely she’s still infectious. You are rarely infectious for more than 7-10 days at most. Think of it like when you catch a real shocker of cold & cough. The cold is often getting better by day 7 but sometimes cough lingers on & on for weeks!

It’s been quite commonly reported that symptoms relapse with covid. You begin to feel better after a week or so & then suddenly feel unwell again.

But way more likely is she’s just caught another of the many delightful winter bugs doing the rounds. My friend has Covid, felt pretty naff for a week, recovered & then no more than a week later caught a stinking cold (she did re-test and it was negative). She was really annoyed 🙈 Do you know why she’s off? Have you been told the symptoms?

I'm just about recovered from long COVID (first got sick in March). I fill in the Zoe covid app and between July and October I've been sent to test 6 times due to relapsing symptoms (sometimes quite severe relapses). Not one positive.

Thanks so much. Yes symptoms are headache cold, sore throat so could be anything. Similar symptoms to covid in kids

Im just about to return to work following long Covid, that I caught in March.

My symptoms in the first two days were change in taste, chest pains, throat, head, chills ect, it wasn't until day 15 that I had to call for emergency help due to respiratory problems.

Then months later had respiratory physio, speech & language (due to to dyspaghia) etc etc, so for me it gradually got worse before it got better. The fatigue, breathlessness & wheezing is still the most debilitating for me, in case you see her zoning out after an hour Sad

Poor you Long you've really been through the mill.

My son caught Covid at school a few weeks ago. This week however, he's uncharacteristically tired. It could just be the time o year etc but makes me wonder.

I read on another thread that you shouldn't retest within 90 days of the original positive test as it can still come back positive (due to traces of the virus I think?)

middleager Thank you for your kind words, its all been quite a shock, before this I was running around after a 7 year old and working full time, in the hospital. 6 of us caught it at work (we think)

Im a single parent and I just cry Im so bloody tired.

I hope your son recovers well, he will probably feel tired at different times on random days, its so strange how it works.
My daughter got over it quickly, but she has had 3 heavy colds since.

That sounds incredibly hard and stressful for you, sending virtual hugs to you and your daughter Flowers

I'm sure the GP would say if the child shouldn't be at school, I hope staff can be kind to the child rather than treating them like a plague-carrier. Feel really sorry for anyone with long covid.

Government doesn't give a shit how many young people get it.

LongCovidClara · 09/12/2020 05:31

Im suprised the G.P mentioned Long Covid when really it's if symptoms persist after a few months. The poor girl probably feels washed out, if it was so recent, Its awful for her.

The British Lung Foundation told me in April, not to expect to feel 100% until approx 6 months time, based on their 'usual' Pnuemonia patients recovery time.
