Breastfeeding and the COVID vaccine

This might be old news to some but I'm due in May and planning to breastfeed. My firstborn was breastfed for 14 months which means I wouldn't have the vaccine until July/ August 2023 (lots of people breastfeed even longer).

No point in posting really except that I hope it won't have an impact on us travelling or attending other social events, and I had to get it off my chest.

Listen to Woman’s Hour from this morning. The Doc said there would be no issues.
She did reiterate how important it was for pregnant women to have the flu jab .

I read some guidance saying bfing women shouldn't have the vaccine and felt down about it (have 3 month old bottle refuser). Intrigued to hear the women's hour piece!

@trunumber didn't see this and thanks!!!
@ladymalfoy45 I'll check that out! X

@pjani I didn't even have a bottle refuser, he was happy to have my expressed milk from a bottle but I would not consider giving up breastfeeding to have the vaccine.

Hello,

I had my Covi-19 vaccine on Saturday 20 of February and I am currently breastfeeding my 16 months old daughter.
This Saturday 27 of February my daughter had some fever. I ordered the test and we are awaiting for results.

I am not sure if it is side effect related to the vaccine as some studies in others vaccines showed that antibodies are found in milk 5-7 days after being vaccinated.
Or maybe she caught covi-19 or flu and it is not associated to the vaccine.

If any of you had the vaccine while breastfeeding, did you notice any possible side effect on your children day afters??

Sorry you had that experience. I hope you’re both ok.

For others, here’s some up to date links on bf and vaccination.

I am bf and plan to have vaccine as soon as offered but the choice is down the the individual - good to have all the best information to hand.

Tamaragamez · 02/03/2021 13:25

Dear Sandy thank for the information.

I think that she caught something as my partner is feeling unwell as well.

However, I was hoping that was something related to the vaccine and she was getting antibodies from me.

I am a student nurse and I was so happy to get the vaccine I did not have any side effects.
I hope you will get it soon.
;)

I had mine 3 weeks ago and am breastfeeding my son who is 14 months. No issues whatsoever.
