I work for the NHS not frontline..I can do nth job from home and have been from March. Our work has come up with a ludicrous idea to get all staff back in for two days before Christmas and three days from January. Apparently it’s for our mental health and well-being 🙄 - which is a load of poppycock. I honestly don’t understand what they need to do this before anyone has had the vaccine...my mental health was ok until I saw the email today, now I’m really worried about exposing myself.

Bump

Is it optional or compulsory?

Will they have safety measures in place?

WildWindBlows · 07/12/2020 21:02

You're very lucky to have been able to work from home. Many of us have been out there 'exposing' ourselves through the entire pandemic. Does seem slightly mad to have you all back right before Christmas though. Just call in sick if you're not up to it.

Favouritebauble · 07/12/2020 21:06

I work in education (not school teacher) and we also had to go back in June 'for our own wellbeing' and have been back in ever since. Private sector seem to be much better with WFH.

maureenfrombarnsley · 07/12/2020 21:07

I'm private sector and can WFH but my work have had us back in 2-3 days per week at the absolute earliest opportunity. I don't think it's mega unusual tbh.

SomethingM1ss1ng · 07/12/2020 21:22

The safety measures etc haven’t been discussed yet..but I’m pretty sure social distancing will go out the window once we all are coerced back in. I don’t like the fact that hey play Russian roulette with my health/life

Sorry but I think you're being a bit ridiculous. I work in a factory of over 100 people, working from home not possible in my industry so I have to eye roll at the idea of a couple of days in an office "playing Russian roulette with your life." Hmm

SingANewSongChickenTikka · 07/12/2020 21:36

If you’re in England the guidance in all tiers is work from home if you can. It appears that you can do it seems strange that they’d pick now to do this and I’d be asking why they seem to have decided the job suddenly can’t be done from home.
Yes, lots of professions can’t work from home bit where it can it seems sensible to avoid unnecessary contact for a few more months while the vaccine is rolling out .

SomethingM1ss1ng · 07/12/2020 21:39

@Waxonwaxoff0 - I’m sorry if my post offends you but it is playing with my health and life for the sake of water cooler chats or generally trying to show ‘look how good an organisation I run..all my staff at their desks staring into the screens’...
The virus hasn’t gone anywhere it’s still out there..without adequate measures and everyone following them yet there will be a spike
What is a mild cold for some is a ventilator for the other...I don’t know which category I fall into

Exactly my point- Why bring in admin and clerical staff? That too before Christmas?

Do you have children and are they at school?

If yes, then you do sound a bit OTT to be honest, unless you are ecv.

I agree there is no logic to it, given the close proximity to Christmas, but many people have returned to work on offices.

Its a small risk yes, russian roulette no.

SomethingM1ss1ng · 08/12/2020 13:54

Yes I do- in primary and she breaks this week. No cases in the school so far.

@ABitOdd it’s really silly isn’t it? Apparently the Execs went in and they felt ‘connected’ when being in the same space so now want all of us to come inHmm utter nonsense in my view

From your posts OP I think it would do you the world of good to go in to work.

SomethingM1ss1ng · 09/12/2020 10:09

Is that not generalising a bit too soon?

OP posts:
KittenCalledBob · 09/12/2020 10:17

I think you have a point OP. Lots of people have been going into work for the past few months, even though it would be possible to wfh, because their bosses have required it - which is what makes you sound a bit precious. But to let you wfh all this time and then bring you in just before Christmas sounds crazy to me!
