DS concerned about Father Christmas and Covid

DS2(8) still believes in FC (I'm baffled as to why, because we are very slapdash about the whole business and his two older siblings had it sussed out years ago but we've obviously been more convincing than we realised Grin).

Anyhow, DS2 takes covid precautions very seriously - he's always chasing after us with the hand sanitiser and practically frog marches everyone to the sink to wash their hands when we get home.

Over the last couple of days he has started to express concern about FC being a 'super spreader' at Christmas (I am not joking). When he first said it I laughed, but he is obviously actually thinking about this, and this morning he said that he would rather ask FC not to come this year. What the hell do I tell him? My initial thought was to come up with some magical powers explanation, but trivialising something that is actually a logical (if misplaced) concern doesn't sit right with me.

Perhaps this is the year to break it to him that he has nothing to worry about? I don't want him panicking and blocking up the chimney on Christmas Eve!

Anyone else's DC worried about this?

Not at all worried but if they were I would put a bottle of hand sanitizer next to mince pies on the table for Santa.

Van Tam said he would be high on the vaccine priority list.
Any chance you could convince ds he has already had it (both doses) by special arrangement with Pfizer ? Maybe volunteered for a trial- I mean it’s the sort of thing a nice chap like him would do.

RoseAndRose · 07/12/2020 18:39

Tell him he's a magical being, and they can't catch it or spread it.

alreadytaken · 07/12/2020 18:42

Jonothan Van Tam said Father Christmas was first in the queue for the vaccine, but also suggested putting out hand sanitiser. I'd go with he volunteered for the trial and was one of the first to get the vaccine - but as it isnt perfect we'll put hand sanitiser there for him.

Point out that Father Christmas doesnt spend 15 minutes in each house as he has a lot to get around so his chance of either picking up infection or giving it to you is very low anyway.

You could him Father Christmas left the presents outside the front door in the night and then text you to say they were there so you went down in the middle of the night to bring them in and Sanitise them. You could even go as far as to change a friends name in your phone to Father Christmas and get them to text you at midnight saying they're there. Then DS could text 'santa' back from your phone to say thank you Smile

Johnson says leaving hand sanitiser by the cookies is a good idea

ElephantWhaleRabbit · 07/12/2020 23:09

Isn't this a great opportunity to get out of buying presents?

MaverickDanger · 07/12/2020 23:10

One of the kids in our family has coined the phrase Santa-tised Grin
