Surely there will soon be a roaring trade in fake vaccination cards?

Just that really. It seems clear that if so many people don't want to be vaccinated but nonetheless want to do things that require proof of vaccination, there are going to be a lot of fake vaccination cards/certificates around.

If passports can be faked fairly easily, presumably this will be the same.

Good points about the profile of people who will be vaccinated in the next couple of months.
Until everyone has access to vaccination, the concept of 'mandatory' evidence is meaningless.
I would very much like a vaccination, but I probably won't get one for months. So any organisation that required proof of vaccination won't be able to admit me.
If this is a long-term thing, then I hope the documentation being given out this week will be kept safe because the government would have to set up an ID system that doesn't currently exist.

c) operate without requiring proof of vaccination for many months and then introduce it as a new requirement despite the fact that by then, since all the most vulnerable will have been vaccinated for some time, deaths and hospitalisations will have been low for months and most if not all restrictions will have been lifted

Literally no one is worried that the C19 vaccination requirement is coming anytime soon, so you're arguing against a straw man here.

Within a year, however, there will be vaccinations available for everyone, and there are plenty of worrying indications that one's freedom of movement will be tied to having one.

DoNotPost · 07/12/2020 12:43

I think the only way is the fact that the vaccination will be notified to a person's GP. The GP then has a record of it and can provide certification (I imagine in return for a fee).

The problem will come if/when vaccines can be purchased privately. I have had many flu jabs privately that I never informed my GP about.

Want to visit someone who is vulnerable? Forget vaccination cards. Just say no to everyone because so called normal people can't be trusted to be reasonable or considerate of others.

DoNotPost · 07/12/2020 12:48

one's freedom of movement will be tied to having one many countries require childhood vaccinations in order to go to school and be educated. These kind of requirements exist already in other 'free' countries.

Personally I am more concerned about the freedom of movement I have today that I will no longer have on 1 Jan, but that freedom of movement (study/employment/trade) doesn't bother the current government at all.

If you want to get vaccinated for this, fine. The problem is if it's made mandatory or 'effectively' mandatory for all, as some like to put it

I can see how it's a problem for you. I'm not convinced that its a problem for society as a whole.

I just can't see the grounds for the worry, though, because I can't see why anyone would want or feel justified in introducing this a year down the line, since by that point hospitalisations and deaths will have been very low for many months.

There’s already people creating fake negative covid test results so people can travel so yes OP I would imagine so.

Seems unfair to have covid passports until the vaccine is widely available for all.

Unless they want gigs/concert halls full of over 80s!!!

Pikachubaby · 07/12/2020 13:14

It won’t be a bit of card

It’ll be an app or similar

trulydelicious · 07/12/2020 13:16

@FourTeaFallOut

For me and a whole lot of other people who have expressed the same concern

Gigs/concerts etc probably won't be allowed to reopen until a significant number of people have been vaccinated AND infection/death rates are down to low enough levels. I'd expect they'd be some of the last places allowed to reopen without social distancing etc.
