We are fine. Tired. Symptoms just cold like really but the cough and temp were the reasons we got tested. Is it ok to run on home treadmill? Should we just be resting? Feel totally wiped out. Dd in gcse year (year 11) so wants to carry on with the remote schooling provided as she is isolating. Is that ok? We seem to be very thirsty. Is that normal? I find it so hard to know what is best.

Thanks all. Of course I won’t be leaving the house. My head just feels so so thick. Like I have just woken up. Really groggy. The rest of my body feels tired but ok. I really don’t want to make myself more likely to end up with long covid so resting seems more sensible. Dd does seem to be bouncing back but she too is still very tired

I found dioralyte really helped with being thirsty and helped recovery

Try not to frighten yourself too much with the idea of long covid.
Post viral symptoms after a virus are rare and the same is true of covid. There is a lot of dramatic coverage in the press about long covid but the fact is most people make a full recovery in a week or two.

. Your energy will soon start to return and as well as resting and nourishing your body, it's important to remain positive about recovering.

I just treated it like any other illness. When I didn’t feel well enough to do anything I didn’t do anything. When I felt up to it, I did. If I did something then felt shit again, I went back to bed.

randomsabreuse · 06/12/2020 21:36

Main thing with exercise is keep an eye on your resting heart rate. I had an (undiagnosed) virus in March and my resting heart rate was up around 90- 100 for ages. I didn't go back to exercise until it had settled back down, which is standard advice for viruses I think.

Thethingswedoforlove · 06/12/2020 21:49

Ooh thanks random. My resting heart rate is low. It’s always low. Currently 46bpm. So that seems to indicate all ok. I will rest for a bit longer though and then see how quickly I progress out of symptoms.

Don't underestimate the recovery time. I had it at the start of November. Didn't think it really affected my breathing and chest until I tried to walk up a hill in the cold ten days after coming out of isolation. Then I knew about it! Don't be afraid to nap if you need too, your body needs it.

Weirdly I had bruises that didn't change for 3 weeks whilst I was poorly with it and then all of a sudden started to heal and my skin started to shed around the same time, it was like my body gave up all normal functions while I fought the virus then started to do "normal" things once I'd recovered sufficiently. It's a very strange illness.

Thanks for sharing your experience sforsh. It certainly seems to be unlike anything we have seen before...

@Thethingswedoforlove if you can get dioralyte or lucazade just to make sure you stay hydrated. Good luck!

Thethingswedoforlove · 06/12/2020 23:31

Thank you @Doublebubblebubble. I will ask someone to drop some off for me

Studying is fine if feeling up to it, no idea why you'd want to run when feeling wiped out and unwell though.

Just do what you feel able to, I went out running when I had covid (at the beginning, they said ok to exercise then)

You went OUT running? That's never been alright or allowed.
