National Trust place in tier 3?

Who'd be allowed to
go? Local people? People from neighbouring tier 2?

If they're tier 3, presumably only the gardens are open - so does it really matter?

nomorespaghetti · 05/12/2020 19:12

We’re in tier 3, we’ve been going to national trusts throughout, even during the last lockdown. Been to one today, which is also tier 3. Going to one in tier 2 tomorrow. Everyone is allowed to go!

nomorespaghetti · 05/12/2020 19:13

But yes, the inside places aren’t open. One of the local ones to us did open an indoor part before the lockdown. But as we’re in tier 3 now it’s not. I imagine we’ll go down to tier 2 in the next review, so it may open again

GreatSoprendo · 05/12/2020 19:15

We’re in tier 3. We went to a National Trust place in the next county (also tier 3) today, and a different one also last weekend. You book a time slot in advance on line.

They don’t ask your address when you book or when you go in, but the guidance is obviously not travel outside of your tier.

Gardens and grounds all open. Cafes open for takeaway only and this weekend the gift shop also open.

LilyPond2 · 05/12/2020 19:19

Unless the National Trust has decided to impose additional restrictions beyond those required by law, anyone in England can go! I believe it may be against the law to leave Wales without a reasonable excuse. Don't know about Scotland. My answer assumes the NT property is in England.

MrsWombat · 05/12/2020 19:55

Local people from the same tier. If it's in tier 3 and you live in a tier 1/2 area then you shouldn't be going there as it's not essential travel for work or education.

LilyPond2 · 05/12/2020 19:57

@MrsWombat That is your opinion, but it's not the law.

Welshponyslave · 05/12/2020 20:01

We had one booked for today but apparently North Yorkshire police are doing road checks and using vehicle recognition software to fine people coming out of tier 3 areas so didn’t go. I am not sure what harm we could do, walking round some grounds.

LilyPond2 · 05/12/2020 20:03

How can North Yorkshire police be fining people for leaving Tier 3? Leaving Tier 3 is not illegal.

MotherForker · 05/12/2020 20:04

@Welshponyslave well they shouldn't be as that isn't the law! It is advised not to travel out of local area, except for essential travel. But not the law.

MrsWombat · 05/12/2020 20:05

@LilyPond2 It's not my opinion, and it's not the law but it's government guidance. I didn't make it up out of thin air.

I know, I don’t understand either. I was really upset about it all yesterday.
We have tickets for castle Howard next week (again, just outside) and I am still nervous about if we should risk going.

78percentLindt · 05/12/2020 20:15

There is quite a lot on the NT website. See below
"In England, many gardens, parks, coast and countryside sites, cafés, shops and some houses are open. In tier 3 areas, houses and other indoor areas remain closed and cafés are takeaway only. Please follow your area's tiering system and government guidance when planning a visit."

I think you need to book, and some car parks in Tier 2 also need a booking due to pressure on space. Bookings open on Fridays.
England.
Best plan is to look at the property you want to visit and see the arrangements.
Hoping the building I volunteer at will open in the forseeable future.

LilyPond2 · 05/12/2020 23:47

@Welshponyslave North Yorkshire police may be making a lot of noise about setting up road blocks to discourage people from coming, but that's not the same thing as actually fining someone simply for driving into a Tier 2 area from Tier 3, as the law doesn't prohibit that.

LilyPond2 · 05/12/2020 23:50

I would suggest that anyone who is worried about the police threatening to fine them for something that is not illegal should write to their MP about the issue.

Welshponyslave · 07/12/2020 20:09

News report today said they fined 3 people travelling to Whitby.

MotherForker · 07/12/2020 20:29

@Welshponyslave but how? Under what law? They have surveillance vans for other things like insurance and outstanding warrants. That is in their twitter. Nowt about covid.

Under the first lockdown loads of initial prosecutions were overturned as they were shown to be unlawful.

I'm tempted to drive to Whitby to see if they stop me and challenge them. Was it on Look North?

Welshponyslave · 07/12/2020 20:32

It was in an article on Teesside Live.
Ironically it seems from Facebook that many people who got a train to York at the weekend for a day out shopping and eating (drinking).
I think I am going to go to Castle Howard Saturday.

MotherForker · 07/12/2020 20:40

Is says they were fined for breaching tier 3 restrictions. That doesn't necessarily mean the travelling to Whitby part. Maybe they were inside with more than one household?

Cantspeakpublic · 07/12/2020 22:30

Are they busy? Wondering whether to visit for the lights trail the weekend but think they may be too busy despite the restricted entry
