Why would they need it?? My mum is against the vaccine, she's sent me this link and asked me why. I can't find an answer to reply to her!

It's not the first time it's happened; The UK gave GSK indemnity against claims from the Pandemrix vaccine (H1N1) (and there were some).

Essentially the CV vaccine hasn't gone through the years of trials to get a full license; it's getting a fast track license. That doesn't mean it's not genuinely believed to be safe, and the need of society to have it now greatly outweighs the requirement to do more long term testing. However, lawyers for the developers are essentially arguing that, as governments are pushing for emergency licensing, the developers should be indemnified against things occurring that would not have done had they spent the normal time testing.

If they couldn't be indemnified against unforseen problems we'd wait years for a vaccine while research continued...and carry on living with lockdowns and restrictions and people complaining about their mental health.
As with most things, we have to weigh up the risks and benefits.

Yes that's what I thought. I suppose she's wary of any long term affects.

Thank you for this. I'd been looking on google but couldn't find much.
