If the app says you need to isolate

Can you get a test, and if it is negative end the isolation early?

I didn't think you could but my place of work thinks otherwise?

Thanks!

No, currently a negative test doesn’t alter the isolation period.

NoGoodPunsLeft · 05/12/2020 15:43

No, because the test might be too early

picklemewalnuts · 05/12/2020 15:44

Absolutely not. A negative test means you don't have it the day you test. You could have it two, three, five days later. You have to see out your isolation- though you get out slightly earlier if you actually get symptoms!

londongirl12 · 05/12/2020 15:46

No, you could have a test on day 2, but then get symptoms on day 3

Firefliess · 05/12/2020 15:48

Not currently. There's been talk about bringing this in (which might be what your work is thinking of) but it's not currently the case.

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 05/12/2020 15:48

Thank you. I knew that was the case but I was beginning to doubt myself!

Another member of staff came back after 3 days as he tested negative and I'm expected to do the same.

Not in the UK but in schools, teachers are testing negative after being exposed to a positive case, then back in the classroom. This is the advice being given by dept of education as to how to keep schools running

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 05/12/2020 17:07

I'm not in an education setting.

Social distancing where I work is impossible though and we are critical workers but we do not come into contact with any members of the public.

I've been around all my colleagues for three days before getting the alert so may give it a few days, get tested, then see where I am.

It really, really isn't.

I had a test and it came back negative.

I've 8 days left and work have told me to come in tomorrow.

What do I do? I've just said I'm uncomfortable doing so and am awaiting a reply.

I can only do 50% of my role at home.

You have a legal duty to self isolate, that's what you tell them. They should not be putting you in this position.
Ginogineli · 09/12/2020 22:20

is it because its the app and not track n trace?

StatisticalSense · 09/12/2020 22:22

@Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails
Why have you wasted a test when you are not eligible to take one?

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 09/12/2020 22:30

Pressure from work but it turned out I was eligible despite no symptoms due to my occupation.

@Ginogineli

I think so.

Ask them, in writing, to confirm also in writing, that they are asking you to break the law by asking you to come in to work before your isolation period is finished, and cite the relevant legislation... bet they'll cave.

Ginogineli · 09/12/2020 22:54

don think youre required to isolate via app are you?

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2020 22:57

You’re not legally required to isolate per the app, just if you’re contacted by test and trace.

Coolerthanapolarbearstoenails · 09/12/2020 23:03

I don't know?

I typed in the code with my test results and it's told me to continue isolating.

I've had to reschedule two maternity appointments as they won't see me until the isolation period is over. Surely it should apply to work too?

noblegiraffe · 09/12/2020 23:10

It depends on whether you genuinely think you count as a close contact of a positive case.
