Parliamentary debate on the impact of covid and schools and exams on Monday

I am appalled to see that one documents that has been shared for discussion on the Parliament website is about the situation in schools and was written in July. Before schools reopened. It is completely out-of-date. How can a sensible debate happen when MPs have been provided with obsolete information?

Oh and before anyone accuses me of wanting the petition on school closure to have happen - I'm not interested in that, but only in the fairness of this years' exams.

From having seen what usually happens in these petition generated debates, they’re very sparsely attended. I doubt Gav will be there answering questions.

Maybe we could email our MPs with more up to date information. Ofsted talking of the chaos in schools in England or the WHO recommendations for safer schools.

Good idea @noblegiraffe. However, if an MP isn't planning to attend it won't make any difference to the outcome of the debate, will it...? Mine's definitely a Tory 'yes' man.

noblegiraffe · 05/12/2020 15:07

Still waiting for a reply to my last email from my MP and he’s a brown-noser who voted not to feed hungry kids so I don’t hold much hope there but maybe others have less useless MPs.

lonelyplanet · 05/12/2020 15:25

I have already written to my MP but I don't expect he'll attend or respond to me.

If the MPs are being provided with this incorrect information there would appear to be no reason for them to attend. I feel so disillusioned by the whole process and the cover up of the true picture.

It’s in Westminster Hall. There will be a minister replying but unlikely to be the Secretary of State.

Augustbreeze · 05/12/2020 19:22

What's the status of a debate in Westminster Hall? Lowly by comparison with the chamber I would have thought!

noblegiraffe · 05/12/2020 20:54

It has the status of a tick box exercise.

Longtalljosie · 08/12/2020 12:20

W Hall is the second chamber. You don’t vote in there. It’s pretty small. That’s not to say that a Westminster Hall debate can’t change anything but it would very much be a step along the path
