When will schools get back to normal?

My DC have had multiple episodes of self isolating between them because of cases in their classes. I'm not complaining as I understand the need for this and schools have been amazing with home learning. But wondering when self isolating at schools will be a thing of the past?

Until community transmission is really low, isolation will still happen in schools.

Mumof3andlovingit · 05/12/2020 09:53

Also as students won’t be having the vaccine it probably will be until we have most vulnerable people vaccinated as they can still pass it on to people in the community.
There’s also the issue of teachers and absences. Some schools have to do partial closures or reduced hours because of lack of staff due to them isolating or ill with the virus.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 05/12/2020 09:54

When the virus stops transmitting.

Which is when the majority of the population have been vaccinated. Which is quite a long way away l think?

MadameBlobby · 05/12/2020 09:56

I’m hoping by the next session in August. But who knows.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 05/12/2020 09:57

As long as school staff haven’t been vaccinated then there will be continued isolations, and school kids isolating

TokyoSushi · 05/12/2020 09:59

I expect that it will go on for most, if not all of this school year.

KatherineOfGaunt · 05/12/2020 09:59

When teachers/school staff have been vaccinated which, unless they're older or CEV, will be at the end of vaccine priority list along with all other non-vulnerable under-50s.

Reindeermayhem · 05/12/2020 10:02

I cannot see it getting back to normal. The Government seem to think it is ok for children to be constantly off for 14 days, with schools allowed to not do live teaching and let parents do it. Oh and no marking of work done.
Far too many days missed here for my children. Working from hoke whilst teaching my own children means something has had to give - and we need a roof over our heads!

I doubt many teachers will get early access to a vaccine, as not many would be over 50, and being over 50 seems a long way down the list. Staff under 50, well!

Racoonworld · 05/12/2020 10:02

When the vulnerable in society are vaccinated there will be no need for isolation. It won’t impact school teachers as much as they won’t need to isolate either. So I’m guessing start of the summer term.

Danglingmod · 05/12/2020 10:04

Next September possibly?

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 05/12/2020 10:06

I think it will need to be more than the vulnerable. And why won’t it impact teachers much.

Even under 50’s will still have to isolate if they get it. And 1/3 of school staff are over 50.

Hercwasonaroll · 05/12/2020 10:09

September 2021

3asAbird · 05/12/2020 10:14

2022 if we lucky.
When we immunised enough people get herd immunity.
Under 16 not eligible for vaccine
Teachers non cev ir under 50 not a priority.
I imagine school be hellos jan as government refuse 14days clear of either side of Xmas.
There will be no doubt a 3rd wave.
If we don't vaccinate enough or change attendance policy then schools will continue be the worst possible places to transmit covid.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/12/2020 10:30

I think once the vulnerable are vaccinated it will get to a stage in schools where only the pupil with symptoms will have to isolate, not the whole class. As children in general tend to be asymptomatic or very mild symptoms it won't matter that they haven't been vaccinated as long as others around them are protected.

PrivateD00r · 05/12/2020 10:32

Possibly September, its hard to know really. There are still so many questions about how long immunity will even last with the vaccine, so it is hard to know how and when restrictions will be eased Sad

Why would teachers not need to isolate? We aren't being vaccinated.

People will still need to isolate once the vulnerable have been vaccinated.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 05/12/2020 11:25

Because teachers are disposableConfused

Redlocks28 · 05/12/2020 11:27

Why won’t teachers have to isolate?!

I’m intrigued.

starrynight19 · 05/12/2020 11:28

So it won’t matter that teachers are at more risk of catching it if we stop isolating once the vulnerable in society are protected ? Why ?

Jrobhatch29 · 05/12/2020 11:29

Agree with this. Once phase 1 of vaccines done I think isolations will be limited to symptomatic people and testing will be dialled Down. It will go back to feeling unwell but not actually knowing what kind of virus you have and if you need help you seek it, like before.
mooncakes · 05/12/2020 11:30

I'm hoping for September 21.

mumsneedwine · 05/12/2020 11:36

Our school is now shut as so many staff are positive. So this will continue unless staff are vaccinated or all dead. We are disposable.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/12/2020 11:38

@mumsneedwine not necessarily. There will be some immunity in people who have had the virus, so once staff recover then they will be protected from it for a while.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 05/12/2020 11:41

@starrynight19 everyone will be at risk once the vulnerable are vaccinated. I'm 30 years old and healthy, I won't be having the vaccine for a good while, I don't expect life to carry on like this to protect me when I'm very low risk. Those of us who aren't priority for the vaccine will have to just get on with things, it's been said as much.
