Test done in hospital how long for results?

Dd had a coronavirus test on Tuesday before she was admitted to hospital. She was allowed home yesterday without hearing any results. How will we get them? Anyone any ideas?

Inpatient covid tests come back within a few hours usually! I would imagine the ward knew it was negative and forgot to say.

I was in hospital for two days recently. They forgot to give me a test until the second day, I went home and got the result by text the day after that. Good job it was negative .🙄

Thanks you

Call and ask. When I had to go in for a routine appointment I had to have one 48 hours in advance of my procedure. They told me they would only ring me if it was positive.

Same here! My baby has the test when he was in A and e and they said 1-2 days but no contact so my dad rang the Covid unit and they gave him the results (didn't even ask for my permission but hey ho!). Thankfully he was negative, hope you get the same result ❤️

In the hospital where I work, we test patients in A&E and results are back within a few hours so we the patient can be transferred to an appropriate ward. If it is a planned admission, they are asked to come for a test 48hrs beforehand. I have patients say they weren't contacted with results, but we check before we admit the patient.

I was tested on the Tuesday just after lunchtime and my positive result was back by about 10am the next day.

Aragog · 05/12/2020 17:06

I wasn't tested the day before in a and e; only on admission the next day.
I was in the 'safe' side of a and e all day, and on a ward with 9 other women all Tuesday and until getting the result in the Wednesday. The woman next to me was in her 90s!! I really hope she was okay.

My issues were being caused by Covid infection but no one had realised or thought that was the case until the positive result hence where I was. Never been moved so quick after hearing that result come through to the ward desk!! A few minutes later I was in a side 'room of shame' on my own with a window out into the rest of the unit!

We've heard nothing yet! Who would I ring to find out? I'm assuming it's negative though?

DD was admitted to hospital for emergency surgery, she had a Covid test minutes before being wheeled into surgery. She never heard the result, and wasn't fussed to ask!

november90 · 06/12/2020 11:57

@KnockThatVolumeDown it might be different at your trust but we rang the Covid ward. If you ring reception they should direct you!
I would also assume negative because someone told me they would only be told if it was negative!
Hope all is well and you can stop isolating ASAP!!

KnockThatVolumeDown · 07/12/2020 13:27

We haven't isolated. That was never mentioned. She only had the test as she was being admitted to the wards.
