I feel the same. I sat in the park with a travel cup of tea with my friend on Tuesday. It was grey, windy and drizzly and not much fun. Although lovely to see her.

Across the road was a coffee shop where people were having a nice warm cuppa and I'll bet most of them were breaking the same household thing.

ssd · 04/12/2020 10:34

It must be hard being in your situation.
Hopefully by next year it's going to get better.
Go home and when baby is asleep, phone a pal for a good chat.

Exactly the same with me, my friend and I sat outside a cafe in the drizzly rain with a takeaway latte, cafe had tables of people in it,probably wondering why we were sat outside....mostly retired looking ..

I hear you, I met a friend and her pre schooler for a walk last week but it was freezing and miserable. This week its slushy and grim everywhere so DS and I just came home, its a long day ahead of CBeebies and Duplo.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2020 10:39

It's rubbish isn't it @ssd.

Hopefully we are getting nearer to the point where we can meet friends indoors again (Tier 2 here). I don't know if the cafes are asking as you enter, but I doubt all the people inside were same household groups.

Duggeehugs82 · 04/12/2020 10:40

My situation is bit different in not wanting to go home as i drive my older daugther to a SN nursery in town 30 mins away. During lockdown 2 i was driving there and back twice so home in middle so 2 hours driving a day, so did that for month and just didnt want to drive today. Which i knownil is my own choice

I met my friend at the park with our preschoolers and it rained the whole time. Met my 70-something parents in the garden and it was freezing. Lovely to see people but oh to meet indoors.

Sparklingbrook · 04/12/2020 10:47

I sat in my parent's (they are 80) huge garage on a deckchair, them one end, me the other with the up and over doors wide open. I took my own cup and threw them a mince pie each-it broke my heart a bit. Mum was stressing that we were breaking the rules being 'inside'. Sad

ssd · 04/12/2020 10:48

@Sparklingbrook, we are in tier 4 , and I wouldn't meet up indoors with anyone just now as dh caught covid indoors on his only day in the pub for 6 months.....so now we're both a bit paranoid....

Not that theres anything open here anyways and probably won't be for a while..

Ach God love he. This must be so hard with elderly parents, its just such an unpleasant experience all round. I heard an elderly lady in the supermarket saying "bloody virus, at least we could see the germans".....

Where are you vaguely @ssd?

We can go inside as groups who live together but it's all a bit iffy if nobody is checking.

PrivateD00r · 04/12/2020 10:54

Aw op it is just rubbish. I really feel for you Flowers I hope that you can have a lovely long phone chat with a friend to cheer you up, though it isn't the same, is it Sad

ssd · 04/12/2020 10:57

@Sparklingbrook, Glasgow. Everything has been shut for AGES.

Ploughingthrough · 04/12/2020 10:58

I'm sorry to read this op. I was just thinking today how miserable I would have been if this pandemic had happened when either of mine were toddler age. The social contact is so crucial for well being. Hang on in there, nothing lasts forever.

ifonly4 · 04/12/2020 11:12

It can be so disheartening at times especially when it appears others aren't following the restrictions. I work in a shop and see it all the time.

Live in a very large village with three cafes. None are open, not even for takeaway. I have a colleague who is a friend and we'd both love a coffee after work (used to go weekly). One positive is that I see her at work, but ... .

OP, do you have a friend you could go for a walk with or perhaps meet in a park while your DC plays?

Sad No wonder you are still in bed.

They opened the non essential shops here on Wednesday along with some hospitality and pubs (with all the alcohol with a substantial meal stuff). So many rules it's hard to summon up the enthusiasm to get out there and do battle.

Heyahun · 04/12/2020 11:22

Can’t you go for a walk with your friend and your coffees ?

Thank for suggestion, she has her shopping and it was raining quite heavy, we will see each other at picking up time, our children from nursery, so will get there 15 mins early so can have a chat which im looking forwards to.

I totally sympathise with you, it's so shit and lonely. I've been meeting friends in the park with our kids but it's so freezing it always ends up with them both in tears on the way gone because it's so cold (despite being very well wrapped up before anyone says anything!).

We were so lucky and had managed to all book into a toddler class straight after the school run but afterwards the weather was dreadful, biting cold and pouring of rain, so we couldn't even get a takeaway coffee after. I was back in the house at 10.05.

As I was walking home in the horrible rain with my gloved hands stinging from the cold and my jeans soaked through, I was thinking about that thread a few weeks ago where people were complaining about how hard lockdown was with toddlers and some people were like 'you just need to get a puddle suit' and 'there's no such thing as the wrong weather, only the wrong clothes!' and I was seething Grin

HannahS99 · 04/12/2020 12:21

Totally sympathise it’s rubbish

Tier 3 here so can only get a takeaway (in the heavy rain sigh!)

I had this said to me in real life once. I've no desire to go out in the cold and rain, and even less to drag my child out in it to moan and be miserable.

I just said "and what if I prefer not to go out in the wet weather? even if I was head to toes in a hazmat suit with a roaring fire on the inside, it wouldn't appeal". They just looked at me, doing the goldfish jaw thing.

What I really wanted to say was "fuck off", but it was FIL Grin

Let them risk each others health if they want.

Yes we came to that conclusion @User158340, at least we have a clear conscience.

MrsJonesAndMe · 04/12/2020 18:11

It has been very tough (((hugs)))
