Covid vaccine and carer for ECV child

Flossie44 · 03/12/2020 11:48

Two of my children are on the shielding list. They dont classify for the vaccine unfortunately.

Scotland have included unpaid carers in the vaccine criteria, alongside frontline workers.

I’m my daughters carer. We haven’t been able to have our homecare nurses come into our home since March.
When would I qualify for a vaccine?? I live in England.

Possibly call your GP as they are likely to be the ones who can put you on the vaccine required list.

Carers aren't on the list. I guess you'll get the vaccine along with all others of your risk group.

It seems to be that they don't yet have any data showing that the vaccine reduces transmission, ie it would stop you getting it (or getting it so badly) but wouldn't stop you picking in up in the course of your daily life and passing it on to your children.

Fuzzypuffling - but I guess the vaccine would prevent me from getting it, enabling me to continue to care for my daughter.
If I contracted Covid, I’m not sure how id care for her

I’m sure on the table that was posted those who are receiving carers allowance or provide care are priority 6.

But in wider terms, that's your problem. The JCVI list is protecting the most vulnerable to the virus (hence preventing the overwhelming of the NHS so it can be used by everyone, for covid or not,) not individual issues.

I realise that this is an unpleasant idea and perhaps a personal Plan B is the way to go. (I'm a carer myself)

Flossie44 · 03/12/2020 13:52

I’m not sure I could have a plan B. I would’ve had one in place already if possible. But like you say, I guess that’s my problem.
