BMI and priority question

Not sure what to do or how this is going to pan out.

When the pandemic started I was BMI 41. I have lost weight (not as a direct result of the pandemic), and am now BMI 35 or so. Hoping to lose more.

However my medical records still show me as BMI >40. My gp did phone in the summer to update my repeat prescriptions (no idea why, no gp has ever phoned to do this before), and I did tell her then that I’d lost weight and was now BMI 38 or so. She changed my medical records to BMI 40 Confused

So at BMI 35 am I going to be offered the vaccine as a priority? I did email the surgery but apparently I can’t have an appointment just for a weigh in. My medical records stand.

I guess I have to accept a priority vaccine, if I decline I might fall off the radar completely.
But I dunno, I’m not really eligible? Unless the inflammation associated with morbid obesity stays for a long time even when you lose weight. The gp surgery don’t want to know about anything non-emergency, maybe they don’t believe me. What would you do?

Absolutely leave it and yay for vaccine.

Ive gone the other way and will have to let them know in larger to get the vaccine. Hmm

harridan50 · 02/12/2020 20:29

If they offer you a vaccine I would have it

Ethelfleda · 02/12/2020 20:32

Well done you on your weight loss Flowers
If I were you, just take it if you get offered it.

PrivateD00r · 02/12/2020 20:35

Take it if offered, everyone will get offered eventually anyway. Please don't be offended, I don't mean to sound negative, I have been where you are.... but the majority of people who lose weight do not keep it off, so I doubt a GP would want to deny you a vaccine anyway. Sorry! I am sure you will succeed Flowers

PowerslidePanda · 02/12/2020 20:48

I'd take it. The risk is a sliding scale (someone with a BMI of 39 isn't necessarily lower risk than someone with a BMI of 41), so you're still higher risk than someone with a low BMI. To not allow you the vaccine would be effectively penalising you for your hard work, which doesn't sit right with me!

TisTheSeasonToBe · 02/12/2020 20:51

honestly by the time we get to your group of people...just take it.

it will be mass vaccinating!

more fun will be all the bmi >40 that have never ever ever had their weight or height recorded......
and then the 'i want my bmi recorded as >40 but i dont want any health advice or interaction......'
and 'can you then delete it because it will affect my life insurance'

Lemons1571 · 02/12/2020 21:01

@PrivateD00r I hope I can keep going, another 6 stone to go!! It’s been easy so far, the lockdown lifestyle change has made starting it and getting going possible.

@PowerslidePanda I’m down to BMI 35 now, hopefully that’s a little bit less risky than BMI 40. No guarantees though, I know.

@TisTheSeasonToBe that’s interesting. I’ve got on my medical records (from a few years ago) “discussed health and lifestyle management”, well I dunno where I was as we certainly never discussed that in the consultation, the appointment was about something completely different!
Life insurance is generally only affected if you’re taking out a new policy?
