Does anyone know whether the Pfizer vaccine will be cold when it's given? I'm a tad anxious about the sting of a VERY cold vaccine!

Probably

You’ll be fine

LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard · 02/12/2020 20:05

No, it will be normal fridge temperature like flu and other vaccines.

herecomesthsun · 02/12/2020 20:07

It will hurt a lot less than the aftermath of an ICU stay.

How? It has to be stored at -70

Absolutely. Doesn’t mean people can’t ask questions about it though.

Yes it does, for stability. It is stored in large batches of multidose vials in the - 70 temperature. It will be brought up into normal fridges or temporary boxes for the clinics where it will be drawn up into syringes in single doses, by that time it won't be -70 any more. People would freezer burn their hands drawing it up otherwise! Also, it would be bad for your arm to give you a -70 degree injection.

bigpricklyfern · 02/12/2020 20:14

I read that it can be stored at between 2 and 8 degrees for 5 days, so I’m guessing that will be the temperature at which it can be given.

You're welcome.
I'm a nurse who vaccinates people for a living and have spent most of day reassuring and explaining vaccine stuff on Facebook and IRL.
I get that people are confused, concerned, scared, interested etc.

Do they know how long immunity will last?

It’s wonderful news. Can’t wait until roll out😊

picklemewalnuts · 02/12/2020 21:24

@LethargicLumpOfLockdownLard thank you! That was the kind of thing I was worrying about- the practicalities of handling it, the phials and needles... I only really mentioned my arm because it was a funny thought, to be honest!

Perhaps I'm overly literal! I couldn't work out how that could be managed!
